    A Rich 97 250

Hi. First off the bike has the keihlins carb which i beleive is standard for the 97. It has the standard exhaust and air filter. When i got the bike it had been stood for a long while. It ran fine and ticked over well until i leant it over or went down a steep incline, then it wanted to stall and needed plenty of sluggish throttle to keep it going. I dropped the float height 2mm and that sorted the bogging problem out but i think its still a bit rich. When I stripped the carb to clean it, I noticed that it is fitted with a 102 main jet and the needle has the clip in the top groove instead of the second one down (as per the info i have for the carb). I thought that the best thing to do was revert the carb to standard settings i.e. fit a 100 main jet and move clip to second from top groove. Can anyone tell me the standard float height? and if it sounds like I am on the right track? Also, why would someone have fitted the larger main jet? Is it just someone who didnt know what they were doing or could there have been a reason for it? Thanks for any replies. Marcus

    97 Easy 250

Hi again. I took the exhaust off and couldn't see what it was so i cut a section out of the back about 5 inches by 3. I found that inside there is a peice of baffle material (shaped like the inside of the expansion chamber) and one side of it had come free and started rattling about so there had been no danger to the engine. Anyway at least its sorted and i'll weld the patch back in tomorow. TTFN Marcus

    97 Easy 250

Hi. Ive just been for a ride round an old quarry and after 1/2 an hour I noticed a rattle. I stopped the engine and started looking for something loose. to my surprise I found that its coming from something metal rattling about in the front part of the exhaust. I can hear it when I knock on it or bang it with my hand. The bike still runs fine and sounds the same. I thought that expansion chambers were empty!! So, has anyone got any idea what I will find when I take it apart? What could it be??? Im confused. (it doesn't take much) Marcus

ooo I dont know Nigel, If you know the difference between a trials bike and an enduro then you would have done a better job than the guy i dealt with.
  6. Hi. I'm new to this site (and to trials bikes) but have found it to be very useful so far. Ive had a good look around but can't find any place to make a donation to support the site. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for your help. Marcus

I just think they should know what they're talking about. It is their job afterall. No i didnt have to prove it wasnt a grey import. They asked me if it was but that was it.

Well at least its not just me then. I just don't understand it. The inspector actually said to me at one point "I dont know anything about bikes" and i thought THEN HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET THE JOB THEN????

Oooo, you lucky swine. Mind you, i didnt have to wait in line for more than 2 minutes at a time. BUT i was kept waiting in the car park for 2 hours. Swings and roundabouts i Suppose
  11. Just a thought. I thought that the power limit was actually based on power to wieght ratio with 33bhp just being a guide. I could be wrong, anyone know for sure?

Hi. Ive just finally managed to get a registration number for my 97 scorpa 250. Crikey they make it hard work dont they. Here is my tale of woe!!! First I call birketts to ask for advice, he tells me trials bikes are exempt from Type Approval and SVA inspection. Then i ring the dvla to find out whats involved in getting a reg number. "Whats a trials bike" they say, so i have to explain it to them. It took almost an hour to make the guy on the phone understand what i was doing. He tells me that i need to get insurance, then an mot, then fill in a form (V55/5) and take the whole lot to the local DVLA office in preston and get the tax disk. Thats when i will be issued the registration number. Sounds simple enough AND as the bike is exempt from inspection i dont have to take it to preston (15 miles away and i dont have a van or trailer) So next i ring my MOT guy to ask about what i need for the daytime MOT. "Just a clip on battery powered horn from halfords (
  13. Thanks for that. I surprised about using ATF in the gearbox but if it works for you it must be ok. I'll get a subscription to tmx i think, but i need to get some practice in before i ride it in public. Years of riding field bikes and then mx should help speed the process of learning along but i am still such a novice!!! Marcus
  14. I've joined a couple of days ago and only just realised this introductory bit was here. So. . . Hi. Im from Lancashire and grew up riding field bikes and then motocross. I then got into road bikes, and then supermoto. I currently own a Yamaha FZX750 and a CR500 supermoto which i have built myself and and can be seen at my myspace page here - http://www.myspace.com/aaaagh . Leave comments if you like. I have just bought a 97 Scorpa Easy 250. I always hankered after a modern mono trials bike since i owned an old ty175 years ago. It has been sat in a local bike shop for about 18 months My grandad passed away recently and left me just enough money, he told me to buy something i really wanted with it so i went down to the bike shop and started haggling. First thing i did was to strip the wheels off and grease everything up. Then cleaned the airfilter (full of muck) and went over the bike to check everything. It seems ok although I had to replace the rad fan and order some brake pads and a front sprocket. I cant wait to start having a go. Anyone know what oil to put in the gearbox? Thanks for listening. Marcus
  15. Hi. Ive just fitted the new fan and after a bit of adjustment (to stop it hitting the radiator) it is now working a treat. So i just need to change the oil now. Can anyone confirm for certain that i should be filling it with 75w. If so then i have some 80w (which is close) will that do? Whatever oil is in it now makes the gear changes feel very stiff and i am getting a bit of clutch drag but that could just be down to the bike not being used in a while. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
  16. Thanks for that. I took the fan motor off and tried it on a battery. It was dead so i bought a used one so i'll bung that on later but i dont expect that to entirely solve the problem as i tested the wires to it while the bikes running and there was no live to it. Is this something to do with the little black box mounted to the fan housing (i havent tested all the wires to it for a live yet). My email is madcr500@aol.com. Those pdf's would be really useful to me if you dont mind sending them. 75w sounds heavy. I have a cr500 motard, the manual for that says to use 80w only when running in (from the factory) then to switch to 10/40. can anyone confirm for sure which oil i use before i change it? Thanks again for the help, i appreciate i am a new member and havent contributed to the site yet so thanks. Marcus
  17. I am the now the proud owner of a 97 easy 250. it needs some TLC so i have a few questions. What oil should i be using in the gearbox? Can anyone point me to a wiring diagram for this model? the loom has been messed with and i dont seem to be getting any power to the temp sender (or fan obviously) Thank you in advance for any help. i'm sure i'll have more questions as i go along. Marcus
