lots of quick inexpensive items to make it work better than stock(I've had 5 TL125's) get rid of the @$)! stock exhaust. get a sammy miller system,or have an exhaust pipe made to replicate sammy's system. get rid of the stock shifter set up(as most people mount a short shifter straight up) install a Bultaco chain tensioner, you have to modify the hole so it will slide over the stock pivot shaft. These two items will give it a little more off idle torque with the exhaust and the Bultaco chain tensioner will make it a lot less jerky through the sections for a more controllable ride. I rode mine in novice and advanced novice and did quite well. Everyone here on this site will have a lot good tricks you can do.
I was looking on here and saw the bultaco style muffler that had been installed on a kt250 on this site
has anyone here tried this mod. I'm thinking about setting mine up this way looks like you would drop some weight and get rid of the side to side swing when riding in rocky or rough sections. looks totally kewl!
maybe one frame, gas tank and triple tree for you kt boneheads(like me) @ bikeboneyard.com He's in in Montana and I bought a kt lower end minus, cylinder and head and a bunch of other goodies. Good pricing
most of the honda stock is gone now, has anyone tried to fit a cb125 piston in place of the TL piston
looks like it will work(possibly pop up the compression a couple of points) as it is now I will clay the head to make sure I have clearance, replies, hate mail,,,all welcome
if I ride my 1974 TY 250 in the twinshock class I can't stop or I will get a five.(I thought trials was about balance?).
But if I ride my 1974 TY 250 in the modern class I can hop, shop until I drop in the section( hoping that I can
clean that section) I will get a "clean" or a zero. If you are brave enough(or just dumb like me) to stop in a
section and balance to do whatever I think it should be allowed. You can always make any section impossible to clean for any skill level rider. Besides, you wanna see wild a$$ riding Try and ride the twinshocker in
the expert level or modern class! gives a whole new meaning to finesse!
sorry twinshock people, didn't think about posting my beater on this section more pics to come soon, some people have mentioned several different mods for this bike, anybody put a degree wheel and a dial indicator
to check how close the timing is as compared to what the engineers had hoped for.#2 does anyone need any pieces to finish there kt projects? mine is close enough now that I can give my tl 125 some attention would rather horse trade for tl parts than spend a big pile of money purchasing high dollar ebay items.
hey, don't know if you want it or need it,but there is a head and cylinder on ebay for 20 bucks and no one has even bid on it yet! bidding ends in 1day 22hrs. I already have a spare cylinder(just in case)my shocks look kewl but need to be spaced out for chain clearance. To nervous to hack up my exhaust as I haven't got a back
up pipe if something goes awry! thanks for your input.
best I can tell swingarm bushings should be 40mm,the swingarm came out to37.58mm, I'm allowing + or - 1mm for powder coating on s/arm itself. Please don't hold me to it,(my math is horrible) but I see what you mean when tightening s/arm it closes the gap pretty severely. If you can find a kawacker dealer it may be a better option to purchase one, they are cheap and still available(just for measurement purposes) I'll be on line for awhile yet.
p.s. I hope this helps,by the way there may be a good s/arm
at bikeboneyard.com he ahd a few bits left for the kt250
your plan with bronze bushings sounds t-rick, I 'll get the measurements for you in the evening after work.
My TY250 I remember was a cleaner set up for the bash plate. would love to improve on that area but I need
to get on with installing the shocks and front suspension, rear are w/p gassers, but I still need fork springs. are the ones from john's website the hot set-up?
I'll try and get some calipers 2-morrow and measure it. swing arm bushing are new (haven't tightened anything down yet). Of course its bright and ugly,no one would dare steal it.
building mine right now, built the motor 1st to make sure it would run and shift through all of the gears, not really sure how it will be in the sections but I figure something to with different ignition timing with a dial indicator might help. the head has to be removed to use the factory dial indicator set up. by no means is it par with a bul,yam or montesa(old skool 70's trials marques) but I think it can be dialed in eventually. I think you can flog any bike if your skills have progressed over the years. the montesa 348 had ignition timing set quite differently than what the shop manual stated, but the different timing settings were night and day. my kt is going to be GREEN! I'm waiting patiently for shocks to come in from ups and should start posting pics and my data sheet. engine on one bench frame on another.
p.s. is there cure for this vintage madness? I can't even take my wallet to work anymore for fear I will buy more goodies for it!
