In regard to the (2) ports in the case, one on the clutch side, the other on the flywheel side... My '96 Techno connected these two ports with a single line. Overflow would dribble gear oil into the flywheel side. My '04 Rev3 has 2 tubes, each going from the repective port to the ground. Interestingly, the Techno was spotless and corrosion-free under the flywheel yet my Rev3 is dry with moderate corrosion... Which plumbing is best?

The fan on my bike pretty much runs all the time. Have new coolant, impellar is fine, bike runs good. Seems like it should cycle on/off more often but I'm new to the bike. Is this normal? Ambient conditions are on average 16C (60F). thanks.

Hi, 2004 Rev3 ... last trial included puddles that nearly swallowed the bike, so I decided to take apart the usual pivots to clean/lube. Ran into troubles very quickly when I couldn't budge my swing arm spindle. The nut came right off, but the spindle is so frozen in there that I nearly stripped the hex. Anyone have any suggestions for getting it out without completely destroying it? So far I've tried using liquid penetrant, torque on the hex, and pounding. Thanks!

Update: Fork leak cause found. Discovered that in '96 the lower mounts are threaded onto the fork legs. This is supposed to be a permanent installation, however they back out over time. Mine were loose over 2 full turns. I've heard that subsequent years with similar forks had a grub screw installed to keep this from happening. Leak gone for now, but I plan on removing, cleaning, and reassembling with some thread locker in the near future. -Russ

1) Float level set correctly, but still leaks gas occasionally. Do the floats have a sticking problem on the Mikuni? 2) Leaking fork oil at base of fork - maybe a drip every 5 minutes. What do I need to fix? thanks! -RussD

Thanks for the tips. I repacked the muffler a couple weeks ago - still loud pop bang at low rpm (about 1 pop every second or two). I also have checked the flywheel shaft key and it's fine. Can't pull the flywheel to check the timing 'cause I don't have the pulling tool. I do have a timing light - are there any reference marks I can use? Someone mentioned that I should check the grounding on the bike, but I don't know where to start. I suppose it could also be the center muffler that's toast, but can't really fix that. Other threads have mentioned the ignition module ... but that's US$300 for a replacement so I need to make absolutely sure it's that before I even consider going that route. Any other suggestions and/or tips would be awesome. Thanks. -RussD

I recently picked up a 96 Techno 250. Being a 4-stroke guy, I thought nothing much of the fact that the bike popped a bit at idle and/or slightly cracked throttle. Now that my neighbors are complaining, I decided to investigate and have found that this, in fact, is not normal... I have completely cleaned the carb, installed a new plug (BP5ES), gas is 92 (R+M)/2 (95 RON) with 75:1 mix. Starts easy, runs good, plug doesn't foul, no excessive smoke. It pops whether the engine is cold or hot (which tells me the pipe isn't igniting unburned fuel). What could be causing the backfiring??? Any help appreciated. thanks. -RussD
