  1. on the starting front from cold I turn the idle screw a full turn clockwise with no throttle and it starts first or second kick let it warm up then turn the idle screw anti clockwise to set your desired tickover, if you have any problems when hot repeat this way and this starts mine again first or second kick hope that helps you mark
  2. hi in response to how I got more tension on the timing chain tensioner 1, I first took it of then I remove the circlip that holds it together at this point the tensioner arm will pop out. 2, there is a bolt on the other end of the tensioner you need to take it off, you will now able to put tension on the spring with a small spade screw driver, while you have still got tension reasemble the tensioner arm by screwing back on, holding the parts together with the tension arm full retracted put the circlip back on. 3, If you have done the above correctly it will have more tension power than before you disasembled it I hope this helps, it made my engine alot quieter I hope this helps let me know how you go on

  4. I use Mobile 1, racing 4T fully synthetic 10w-40 4 cycle motorcycle oil. hope this helps also have you replaced the valve shims yet mark
  5. Hi I agree with wayne on his points I to have an 08 sherco 4T it will pull in any gear it is also a great laugh and confidence giver, As I have said earler on my forums it is the best bike I have also had. on the starting front from cold I turn the idle screw a full turn clockwise with no throttle and it starts first or second kick let it warm up then turn the idle screw anti clockwise to set your desired tickover, if you have any problems when hot repeat this way and this starts mine again first or second kick
  6. hi wayne yeh I would recommend anyone to have a go on one
  7. try a slightly thicker oil you will be suprised with the difference mine is very quiet now hope this helps
  8. I had chance to get out on the bike today, the practise area is woods and in the woods there is plenty of rock climbs it was raining hard with very little grip with leaf litter and a mix of clay and real sh---y stuff, there is some good hill climbs with tree roots dotted throughout each climb plus rocksteps to have a go at. I am really surprised each time I did a section how much grip the sherco 4t gives you when your head tells you the bike should brake traction just roll back the throttle to tickover then roll it back on just above tickover and it just chugs along giving you bags of confidence on climbs that you can bearly stand up on without hanging on a tree. The only way I can discribe the grip is if you have owned, or had a go on a farm quad and you roll on the throttle you feel the backend dig in then thats the feeling a real fourstroke with bags of torque. I played around with stage 1 & stage 2 settings on the handlebars and I found that stage 2 it gave a softer feel in the snotty stuff and stage 1 worked very well and in the quarry with loads of grunt I also found the engine braking on the down hills very good not to agressive to want to through you over the bars but a usefull aid for you to use.
  9. have you heard the gasgas 4stroke engine on you tube it sounds like a bag of nails but I do agree it will be interesting to see how it handles & grips.
  10. you are all stuck on the value of bikes if you like a model and you are going to stick with that marquee then you will get a good trade in. The montesa 4rt has its good points the suspension is very good plus the build quality, but it has its bad points the steering geomotry could be alot better it tends to push out on tight turns, also the rear plastics are c--p. montesa honda are clever in making a good bike that is not quit right that is why so many montesa owners spend thousands which they will not get a return on upgrading to a 300cc, also trying to improving the brakes that dont need it infact the list is endless on mods you can buy the end result is that you will be no closer to a works bike and you are left with an empty pocket, at least with a sherco 4t you are buying a bike you do not have to spend thousands on to get it to a 300cc and the bike is alot closer to a works bike than the montesa you get 320cc at no extra cost with more power than you will ever need all the parts work very good without the need to upgrade.
  11. I have had 2 montesa 4rts and it grips better than them and is easier to do trick riding because it feels alot lighter I would recommend these bikes I have owned all the other marquees except beta and it is superb bikes I have had montesa 4rt x2 montesa 2stroke x5 gasgas raga 280 gasgas raga 300 scorpa 250 x2 sherco 250 sherco 290
  12. hi I retensioned the timing chain spring then reasembled the parts to the chain tensioner which gave it a stronger tension on the chain slides thus quietening any chain noise runs great now superb, infact I have had 2 montesa 4rts and it grips better than them and is easier to do trick riding because it feels alot lighter I would recommend these bikes I have owned all the other marquees except beta and it is superb
  13. has anyone had any problems with the timing chain tensioner chain sometimes slaps when rev and tickover, I have checked the timing chain tensioner it seems to operate fine !
