  1. We're replacing the coil first (doesn't seem to be working too well) but I just want to cover my bases. No idea what the system is. Stator looks like a crossover from a Ducati.
  2. Hi guys, My girlfriend's 1996 Techno 250 is having electrical issues. We've narrowed it down to either the coil or the CDI. The stator is good (we originally thought this was the problem but it is good). The dealer wants a small fortune for the CDI box so we're wondering if we can find it for cheaper. Dealer quoted around $290 CDN for the CDI box. Please let me know if you know of anything cheaper.
  3. No black/white wire exiting the CDI that I could see. I ended up connecting it to the Red/White wire exiting the CDI and connecting into the headlight and fan wiring then grounding to the frame where the CDI and coil ground by the airbox. Seems to work fine, but if you have your techno apart I'd like to see how it is supposed to be. One other thing - I plugged in the voltage regulator and the bike ran like crap (wouldn't rev up, misfired, etc) so I disconnected it again. Is there any need for a voltage regulator on this bike?   4. Hi guys, My girlfriend recently picked up a 1996 Beta Techno 250 and we're trying to get it sorted out. The wiring was quite the mess, but now I've got the fan working properly and the headlight is wired up again. Last thing to do is put a kill switch on the bike. I have the wiring diagram in the owner's manual and it looks the bike has never had a kill switch (don't see one in the diagram, anyways). I have a spare one kicking around (moose 2 wire - grounds to frame) that I'd like to wire up for the bike. Where should it connect into the wiring harness? On my Gassers they connect directly to the CDI box. Any ideas where it should get connected in on the Beta? Thanks! Steve
  5. Hi guys, I recently got a trials bike (1999 TXT270) and have been having a few overheating issues. I've checked out the fan and thermocouple - everything is operating fine. The problem is I end up doing a fair bit of dirt road riding to get to the technical stuff, and the bike overheats on the roads. As an enduro dude, I find this kind of ironic since it's the opposite of what happens with enduro bikes. Has anyone ever tried fitting an overflow bottle to a trials bike to recover the lost coolant? It's only an issue on uphill dirt roads where the bike gets revved a bit in 5th. Flat and downhill roads are fine. Or should I just slow down and let the bike cruise at idle in 5th? Thanks.
  6. Trent and I are good friends - we went to Greece last year for the ISDE. Right now his trials skills are way beyond mine so it might be tough to ride together on the trials bikes. Rest assured I'm hoping I can catch up to him soon!
  7. Just thought I'd introduce myself, and ask a few questions. First off, the introduction.... I finally picked up a 1999 GasGas TXT270 a couple weeks ago after being harassed by my sponsor (GasGas Pacific) for way too long about getting into trials riding. About me, well, I'm 23 years old, mechanical engineer, live in beautiful BC and love riding motorcycles! I started riding 9 years ago, then started racing harescrambles about 7 years ago. In 2007 I race the ISDE in Chile but DNF'd when the top end seized after a mix up with fuel (straight gas in a two-stroke is BAD). Last year I again raced the ISDE, this time in Greece. I had some mechanical issues (tire balls went flat) and health issues (flu, then broke my foot on day 5) but made it through with a bronze medal. Still a little disappointed since I know I'm capable of getting a silver at least! Right now I'm racing the A (eh?) class here in Canada and will hopefully move up to the AA/Pro class next year provided things go well this year. So, I have some experience on dirt bikes, but this trials thing is all new to me! I'm used to going fast, so slowing down is a little weird right now. The bike I picked up (1999 TXT270) is in pretty good shape and this way I don't feel guilty when I crash on it. The only issue right now is fixing the kill switch as it's not working after a tip over last week. So, that's about it for me, though I have a few questions. I'm pretty much a rank beginner on a trials bike, so I'm wondering where/how I should start out learning this new type of riding? I've been playing in the yard trying to balance, do tight turns, wheelie, nose wheelie, etc. I'm having trouble doing stationary balancing, are there any tricks? Are there any good sources of info online for basic trials skills? I've heard Ryan Young makes some great training DVDs but money is tight (enduros use up all my $$$ and then some) so I'm trying to keep trials riding cheap (for now). Plus I need to get some proper trials boots and a helmet! Thanks everyone! Steve
