Hi All, Im having problems with my kawasaki kt250 i have to hold the throttle wide open to get it to start!(choke on) also when the engine starts the choke has to be turned off almost straightaway or it wont run! also the engine gets really hot quickly? when warm if you turn the choke on it kills the engine instantly! (this dosent happen on my beamish it just runs to rich!) theres not a lot of compression when you crank itover by hand! there so it may need a rebore or new rings? any ideas? thanks in advance

Sounds like your Kawi has an air leak. Verify mag side crank seal isn't popped out. Also check compression with an automotive compression tester. Should be at least 120 psi. It could be simply worn out. If the basic engine is in good shape with no air leaks it becomes a carb. issue. Start with the basic pump. (the engine is just an air pump) Then expand to carb, and timing ck.

Thanks mate! ill check the ign crank seal, dont think it will be the clutch side as the bike hardly smokes! Im Going for a rebore/ new piston etc!!!

but where the hell do you find pistons for the KT250! got a geniune +50 piston but no rings!

Options for reboring KT250s

Wiseco Honda MT/CR 250 Elsinore piston - take care when fitting barrell till rings ends get above the rear ports. CR pistons have ring ends end at rear (KT has ring ends at front) but the CR ring ends miss the port holes once assembled. No barrell spacer needed. I've had one in my KT for a few years now with no problems.

Suzuki TS250 pistons work OK too but require a spacer under the barrell as the gudgeon pin is lower than on the KT piston.
