What number or colour is a good general purpose one for stopping Beta loosing it's bolts?

Want something fairly strong...needs to hold the flywheel weight on amongst other things?

Is that not a little too strong? The table I have says it for bearing retention? I was thinking something somewhere between 242 and 290?

601 is way over the top, 242 should be fine.

I use 270, holds better than 242 and will not act like welding the threads
