ishy
Do you think world trials in the 70's early 80's promoted the sport better to the public and club rider than it does now ? Do you think the better and more extreme the riders got, the more complicated and detached world trials became ? Do you think left to go on just has is, world trials will become more popular, or more likely to die out ? What do you think, the biggest factor for low entries are, $, severity, desire, all of the above. ?

As Mike says, what happens when sections get so hard that no-one can do them its dying now. Severity puts a few people off, most trials i go to are blokes 35-50yrs old that have to go to work the next day, no-one wants to get injured, but as most people have familys there always another option to spend your sundays these days, ways to spend your leisure time (and money) are far better now than they ever have been. Last Sunday I was out at a popular area practising with a couple of mates, there were 2 trials on within 30miles of that area (normal distance for round here) but at the practise area I counted 25 bikes (which was very strange as 5-6 is more normal), we spoke at some point to most of the people that day, the general impression i got was they just werent interested in competing, loved there bikes and just liked messing around, riding over what they wanted not what they were told/asked to ride over, a couple did ask about what was available localy and they were thinking of giving it a go. The 2 Trials had 57 riders at one and 62 at the other, not including C&D classes, thats about normal entries around here, the extra 25 would have boosted either clubs, is that a bad or good entry? No - Today with television and what Dougie Lampkin has done for the sport I dont think so Do you think the better and more extreme the riders got, the more complicated and detached world trials became ? Detached from you and I maybe, but not the youngsters coming up Do you think left to go on just has is, world trials will become more popular, or more likely to die out ? Tough one - the younger riders all do the hop/stop stuff and as they will be the future then it should survive What do you think, the biggest factor for low entries are, $, severity, desire, all of the above. ? Some trials are well oversubscribed so maybe it's the quality thats lacking?
