Ive just picked up yet another TY250 Mono as a parts donor, has a couple of interesting modifications, wondered if they are familiar to anyone.

The front end has a disc brake conversion using a brembo caliper, it appears to be clamped to the fork leg. I assume this is aftermarket as surely a Yamaha version would have a mounting point on the forks.

Also the back end has a disc brake conversion as well, the gut I bought it from said he'd owned the bike for 10 years and it was like that when he got it - he bought it from a trials bike specialist in the North East who told him the back end was from a Gas Gas.

Ill try and post some pics in the next few days if its of interest to anyone.

I'd also like to see pics, it's something I've wondered about looking into! Also with a GG swingarm, a fair lump of weight would be lost I'm guessing...

I had a TY Mono nearly twenty years ago that I converted both ends to disc brake, using kits developed by Talon Eng.

The front had a bolt round the fork leg clamp and floated using only one piston.

The rear had a similar design of floating caliper.

Very nicely made but didn't work that well, either end. The rear was a right tw*t to set up and keep working.

Still it did mean that I didn't have to take the wheels out after every trial to clean the drums anymore.

Some conciliation, I suppose!

I had a D/D Yam also, and the Talon brakes didnt work as well as the drums.....................there were 2 disc brake conversions around at the time, the other being the John Shirt one which I think worked a bit better than the Talon.

Thinking about it, the front caliper was held on to some sort of bracket/wheel spacer affair.

It was the Shirty version that was clamped around the fork leg.

It still didn't work well though!

I made a bracket that floats on the axle and engages the original torque lug on thr fork. Used GG 4 piston AJP caliper and GG front wheel. Works awesome. Details and pics posted here in past.

Now, if I could just figure how to easily mount a rear master cylinder, that looks harder than the rear caliper mount. Looking at building the pedal mount when I lower the peg mounting brackets.
