Major Gearbox Issues

Featured Replies

hi all

I know this isnt strictly on the topic of trials bikes, but my girlfreinds brother has given me his 1999 moldel Kawasaki KX80 to try and sort out. He lent the bike to a mate in the knoledge he was to buy it. Now the bike was run without gearbox oil and now the gear box obviously has issues. The bike will only pull in neutral, any other gear and the gearbox seizes. i have striped it down to have a look at the selector and all is fine there, and this is also how i can tell it only pulls in neutral.

If anyone could giva any ideas into what the hell is going on in there before i rip it all apart, i would be extreemly greatfull.

many thanks

max

Sounds to me like at least one gear has siezed. Thats all it takes to get your symptoms. Hardly unusual if ridden without oil. You won't know the complete extent of the damage until you split the cases.

Probably a broken shifter fork (on the one it is stuck in) which is permanately engaged.

As this being the case, one cannot engage anther gear, as things will lock down!
