Rear Sprocket

Featured Replies

Hello Chaps - im gonna get a new chain on my bike and thought i get a new sprocket as well. Have seen some nice red Talon ones on Ebay. They come in 40 or 42 teeth. Its to dark after work to go and count how many i have on mine. Which should i go for. I guess the more i have the lower the gearing so i was thinking 42.

Many thanks!

You may need to cough up more info on your bike as I remember the 315 gearing changed from year to year..maybe..or get y'sel a torch.

AH good point - its a 1999. But i guess i can put what ever i like, teeth wise, on in theory - to change the gearing?

If you've got a 10 tooth (which was standard) on the front then the 42 should lower it nicely. If like me you have 9 teeth on the front then it seems to work nicely with the 40.

I haven't helped have i? :( Go and get the torch.......

10 / 40 was standard for the first couple of years of the 315, then it changed to 10 /42, dont know if there was any internal gearbox changes.

just buying a chain and sprocket for my 97/98 bike and was advised to go for the 10 /42 combo.

can confirm 10/40 on mine 1999 but will be changing to 42 rear find gearing to high :(
