02-apr
To echo points made earlier - todays British Champ results were ready for emailing almost before the last rider returned to the finish. Dave Willoughby does a great job and I'm sure the software or spread sheet he uses must be readily available. The cost of lap top etc is well within the realms of most clubs and a simple spread sheet could be made fool proof. I guess we are typical British and just accept what we are given but a bit of organization could see results out within a few hours especially with punch cards. Probably easier for 4 or 5 club members to read and organize results before they pack up and leave the venue than leave it to an individual to do once they get home. This assumes there are as many as 4 or 5 actually involved. I have oftentimes seen trials run by half that number (or even less) - did it singlehandedly on the day once myself. jimmyl
I appreciate things often fall on the few but if a lap top and software is in place I am sure riders could be made to help out with reading score from punch cards as ultimately it will help them know where they have come. Give riders the option "put up or shut up" if as riders we want quicker results we need to help out. PS I ride Observe C of C Coach and now volunteered to be a secretary of a trial
copemech
I have written an Excel Spreadsheet that if any club would like a copy send me an email and I will forward you a copy. The first event we used it at had 70 riders with 30 scores per lap and 3 laps and the final results had been printed within a minute of the last rider. All count backs are automatic. The number of people we had in scoring was 2, well someone has to keep the drinks filled. Here is a sample of the results output. http://www.ajs.asn.au/results/2008/04-06-08.htm I like that PA, can you send me? Does it still work if one does not enter the 1's, 2's etc? MC
pa.
The system works by the person entering the scores justs enters how many 0, 1, 2, 3 and 5's for the rider. This then gives you the score for the lap and the program the information to sort count backs. No matter how many sections you have there is only 5 numbers to enter for the lap. We usually have one person who issues the new cards to riders then counts how many scores for each column. Then the PC operator enters the 5 numbers. When setting up the file for the event you simply enter how many sections and how many laps for each class and the program will give you the applicable error message if you enter too few or too many section. IE If you enter 11 scores and there was only 10 sections you will get an error message telling you >req scores. I will email to those who have sent me a message a copy over the weekend as I am just adding a few bits more. PS I am the rider who won C+ on that set of results. (Maybe something to do with having some hidden code that says when ridername ="Peter Arnold", minimum score -1)
