July 14, 200917 yr My new 2009 4RT is overheating and my first thought is compression ring blow-by until the ring seats. As an example, I start the bike, warm it up for a few minutes, get up to fourth on a very gentle uphill grade, go about 300 metres, turn around, come back down the street against the breeze and half way back the fan comes on and the engine is HOT. I bled the cooling system to be sure there was no airlock. Should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks.
July 14, 200917 yr I have a new Sherco 3.2, and what you are describing sounds normal for my bike in the summer. My bike is only runnning a few mintures before the fan comes on, and it runs most of the time I am on the bike when it is warm out. If you are not having any radiator overflow or steam I would think that your bike is running as it should. I did get a little concerned about my bike running too hot one night as it was just getting dark, and you could see that the header pipe glows bright red from the heat. A call to the distributor revealed that this is normal - the exhaust does get very hot.
July 14, 200917 yr sounds normal, these bikes do run hot, the fan being more on than off. especially in the summer.
