April 19, 201016 yr My 2007 Sherco 290 has a fair bit of sideways play on the rear brake lever, this is then causing the brake pedal to scrape against the engine casing when i use it to break. Have anyone else had this problem??? I ordered a new bush and a new bearing so hopefully this will fix the problem????????????????????
April 19, 201016 yr I had that problem on a used 2004 290 that I bought. The previous owner did not take the break lever apart regularly and clean/grease it - so the bearing was dry and the grit wore the bushing. The result was that the brake pedal had a lot of sideway movement. Grease the new bearing and bushing well.......and occasionally take them apart and clean and grease them in the future.

April 20, 201016 yr Have noticed that the new Sherco has a bush instead of the needle bearing.This may improve the situation I have not looked in the new parts book, but I have run a bronze bush in lew of the bearing for the last couple years. Works a treat, and I have intentionally left it alone untill recently just to se how it would wear. I think it is the way to go, as the others do not last even if you keep them perfect, a good knock will damage them.
April 20, 201016 yr The bush/sleeve isn't particularly hard so they wear quickly, having a needle roller in the lever isn't the best choice either. The new parts will cure it for a while
April 20, 201016 yr Author Cheers copemech, just followed your advice and made a bush out of bronze on the lathe, wish i had thought of that before spending nearly a tenner on the bearing, nevermind i got a spare now. i'l have to fit it later and see if it cures the sideways movement.

Set it up tight and it should be good. I had to ream the bush to size after pressing it into the pedal. Seems it was a 14mm hole as i recall.
April 24, 201016 yr Author Fitted an aluminium bronze bush yesterday to the brake lever, it should last a while as it is a very hard material that is used on bearings and bushes etc.... works a treat, no sideways movement at all.
