Stripped Threads.

Hi,

The two small screws holding the plastic chain guard (2003 290 Sherco) have stripped the threads in the swinging arm. Any ideas for the easiest fix?.

I was thinking maybe pop rivets would do temporarily, but they might wear down very quickly. It looks very small and thin for helicoils.

The nicest repair would be the installation of a pair of rivet nuts

Heli coil it.

If you have the ability and gear to do it, then do that.

Or if you have a tap and Die set, just run the correct size Tap down it and try save some of it.

Or drill and tap to the next size screw. There is plenty of swingarm there, so a little bigger hole won't make much difference.

I have some rivnuts but they seem to need a pretty big hole, and the shoulder would raise the chain pad/guard a bit high I think.

M5 helicoils methinks. If i make an a*** of it I can fill the holes with weld and start again!.

It's a Sherco Not a GasGas, so the swingarm ain't gonna snap in half.

There is already a hole there and in my opinion going 1 size larger in screw would not cause a problem, any more than that might cause issue.

M5 helicoils are fine, the alloy thickness is more than I had thought.

PS. I came across a reference to these on the BSA A10 forum. They look spot on for many applications, They're like rivnuts but without the protruding shoulders.
