Thanks for that. It's quite a long time since the 340 was running but as I recall it never seemed to have the poke and pickup that the 325 has. Maybe redoing seals, rings, etc would improve things. The electronic ignition makes a big difference but I'm sure I remember there was something different about the one for the 340, if so that would be another £200 . I'll check it out. Thanks again.

Hi, I have a 199a with a Dave Renham electronic ignition on it. I also have a spare 199b engine unit. I'd like a 6 - speed 325 motor with electronic ignition!. I wonder if anyone could give any pointers as to which way round would be the easiest course of action. Can the 199a cases be machined to take the six speed gear cluster?. Or could the 199a crank, barrel, ignition, etc be swapped to the 199b?.

    Many thanks for that.

Is it just me looking in all the wrong places or is there not much online chat this year?.
  5. Sorry, should have made it clear that by "this area" in my first post I am referring to the Blackwater path running through the Kinlochleven SSSI, and the tracks connecting with it.
  6. Is this just the usual "cry wolf" before the Scottish or do you really want identities of "unauthorised" people riding trials bikes in SSDT territory around Kinlochleven?. Could be some red faces there!. And personal numbers on vehicles are not difficult to identify!. I know of 9 trials bikes out in this area today, none with any connection to the organisation of Pre-65 or SSDT.

1778 units - Model 199B from frame 198012876B to 198014653B I know of a later frame number than this.
  9. Hi Bondy, What was the answer to this? .
  10. Thanks for that. The bike was registered on 12/09/1979 and "date of liability" is 01/09/1980. Can we suppose the bike was never taxed after that?. At that time every man and his dog in Kinlochleven had a trials bike and I doubt if any were taxed or insured.
  11. Woody, how do you find out when a bike was last taxed, can't see anything on the DVLA database about that for an old road reg Sherpa I have?.

    So, what was the answer?.

The half round type of key can sometimes move inwards when you push the flywheel on, jamming the flywheel from going in fully. You could check for burrs on the key and put a drop of loctite in the slot on the shaft.(clean it first). Make sure the key is tapped fully down in the slot.
  14. 2. GENERAL LOCATION 2.1. The mounting for the rear registration plate of a motorcycle, motorcycle combination or tricycle must be located at the rear of the vehicle in such a manner that: 2.1.1. the plate can be positioned within the longitudinal planes passing through the outer extremities of the vehicle. 3. INCLINATION 3.1. The rear registration plate: 3.1.1. must be at right angles to the median longitudinal plane of the vehicle; 3.1.2. may be inclined from the vertical by not more 30
  15. Here are the DVLA approved sizes, you can work out the size of plate you should have. This refers to bikes registered after 2001, I think. Character height 64 mm Character width (except the figure 1 or letter I) 44 mm Character stroke 10 mm Space between characters 10 mm Space between groups 30 mm Top, bottom and side margins (minimum) 11 mm Space between vertical lines 13 mm
