Hi all, bought a mont 315 r that hadnt been used for 1 and half years, just been stood, anyways after giving it a good ride, i replaced the gearbox oil. Seems loads better now, but when the engine is at low revs, with the clutch in, it seems to drag a little and bike keeps moving, until i give it a good rev. any ideas please?? i have only been riding around in the garden since changing the oil, so wondering if it just needs a good run in?

cheers

If you take the clutch apart check the 'fingers' of the clutch basket, mine had worn notches down them. A gentle file should be all that's needed. Also check the steel plates for straightness

use pj1 clutch tuner the ultra light stuff and get a master cylander overhaul kit about 10 pounds or so for one of them.

it will still drag a little tho untill you have moved off and stoped some of them just do that but if you use that oil and do your master cylander that will help.

Clutch drag was the norm for the 315. As stated, it is very sensative to the oil used. The ELF oil that the factory recommends is absolutely the way to go. As an alternative, SureFlex made a clutch kit that dramatically improved the bike. Haven't looked in forever, but they are likely still available.

Did you adjust the clutch action at the lever to make sure its fully disengaging?

What oil did the previous owner use? Did he switch brands often? Clutch plates can swell up and drag when subjected to a cocktail of different oils. At this point for you just changing oils may not be enough.

Try to rough up the metal discs with 300 paper.Metal discs that have worn smooth can cause drag. If all else fails than new plates are the answer. There are several options for replacement: Standard plates work well if you use the ELF oil, Honda CR 250 cork plates work well also SureFlex is good.

Oils: ELF HTX 740 is the best. It may cost more initially but you can go longer between changes so the cost ends up the same as others. PJ1 Clutch Tuner works well but seems to degrade quickly requiring frequent changes. ATF is cheap but clutch actions is grabby.
