I thought all the tables would have been screwed to the floor?

They usually are John. When I was kid and air travel was still quite expensive we (family) used to regularly travel on the union castle line. I remember one very bad crossing of the Bay of Biscay where about 90% of the passengers were confined to the heads, my dad and I were about the only people up and about. Eating was an interesting experience being a case of "if you can catch it you can eat it".

Tables on those union castle liners were bolted to the floor and had little fold up flaps on the edges to prevent the plates falling off the table. As a cruise liner (as opposed to a mailship) it's possible that the ship in the vid was designed for calm seas like the caribbean and not rough seas.

  I had a similar experience in the Med (supposedly calm  ) .In a storm I was the only one looking for scran, trying to get up the stairs to the dining room.

The ship was pitching up'n'down so much that I timed my run so my feet stepped on the risers of the staircase not the treads!!

When I got there the chef said:- ''Food?.. now? f... off!''
