July 22, 201313 yr Hi ll, I have a 2011 cabestany and went to change the oil the other day as the shifting felt notchy and clutch seemed to be sticking more than usual when cold. Well i pull drain bolt and it looks like white sludge! I had maybe 3 trail rides on this change and water is pretty scarce where i ride, i did cross a creek several times last outing but the water was barely to the skid plate. Can't see how water got in there as i was going really slow. After changing oil about four times in a row i thought it looked good and went out for a ride today and changed it when i got back about 30 mile trip. Oil still looked white (not as bad as before though) how many changes before this goes away or is it clutch plate stuff or some other problem. Coolant level never changes....thought someone might ask this. Thanks brin
July 22, 201313 yr I use motorex oil and have found that after only one dry ride the oil does go pale/milky, but not sludgy. It appears that some oils almost change colour the moment you put them in the bike. When my clutch starts to feel very different when cold and the gearbox becomes very notchy it's time to change oil, usually every 2-3 months for me but i only ride 1 trial per month if at all. I tried ATF fluid for a while but that makes gearbox changes terribly difficult and finding neutral impossible. Fresh oil and it's like a new bike. cheers
July 22, 201313 yr Well, I would say if it is milkey, and not from coolant, then your water crossings may be the culprit, cause a surge of water can still hit the cases causing shock cooling and sucking in water from the vent tube at skidplate level. Might insure vent tube is run up over carb then back down to plate level. M2C
July 23, 201313 yr Author Thanks, I just changed again and I will go for a ride and see if it turns color after the ride, this time however I will not wash the bike first...perhaps a bit of water from washing is getting past the air cleaner or something. Brian
July 24, 201313 yr Author I would not think it is that because the coolant level never changes, still the same level as last time i changed over to engine ice coolant. Brian
