Scorpa 250F Clutch Drag

Hi folks.

Got an 07ish of the above.

No really wanting to put a new clutch in it as it doesn't slip .

However it doesn't clear cleanly even right in.

I've tried a number of semi synthetic oils and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Advice welcome.. .

I think step 1 is to put in the oil that is recomended for your bike, maybe you have to change it a second time after running it for an hour or so.

Step 2 would be to look at the adjustment of your operating mechanism, is the free play set up right?

Step 3, if you have a hydraulic clutch, sorry not familiar with your bike, bleed the system.

If this fails, you will have to change the plates.

When the wrong type off oil was used, it is possible that the coated plates have soaked up the oil, you can't get rid off it so a change will be ineviteble.

It's a very common problem with that Yamaha motor - there was a heap of posts on ThumperTalk about it in the YZ250 configuration. it's not just a Scorpa thing!

Scorpa improved it in 08, but still with some drag issues.

This is the setup from the italian X4 Team:

Clutch mods for 06/07 only Scorpa SY250F, 2008 SY250F do not need any modifications as a different stack is used.

The stacking of new clutch discs can improve the sensitivity and avoid possible clutch drag. Here, below, follow the order to insert discs:

- Disk Friction 3XJ-16321-00

5NL-16325-10 5NL-metal disk-

Aluminum spacer (Scorpa OEM plate)

5NL-16325-10 5NL-metal disk-

- Disk Friction 3XJ-16321-00

5NL-16325-10 5NL-metal disk-

We found a little shim washer (cant remember the thickness but it was quite thin) placed on top of the hub towers, in combination with this clutch plate combo above did the trick. You will have to do a bit of trial and error to get the right shim washer thickness to get the right balance between slip and drag, but it does work.

Thanks for the replies gents.

I'm happy enough with the way it's adjusted and biting point.

When it gets really hot is when you notice It especially trying to find neutral.

I think a strip down is on the cards.

Hi Loonal,

Had it to bits today and saw the holes were already drilled.

However,I tried a wee bit" fine tuning" with my drill.

All I can say is that it is better in the cul-de-sac.

See how it goes tomorrow.

Post Trial

Big improvement ,drag almost eliminated,can even get neutral now at a standstill.

I never though about that!

Yes I did make them slightly bigger,but not them all just one in each group of three.

Not much ,if it was a mm I would be surprised.

As I only Trial it and you would have to be a brave man to really give it gas I can't see this doing any damage.
