Is there a video anywhere online that anyone is aware of for a walk through talk through for linkage removal and replacements. Got a bit of up and down play (about half inch) when bike is on sump stand . Thanks

Don't know about a video but its an easy job. Take some digital photographs and mark the linkage parts so you get them back in the right way round.

It sounds as though some of your bearings are worn out. You will need a vice or press and some of the right sizes sockets or round pieces of steel to push the outer cages out and in with.

Chris, almost any bike you throw up on a stand can have that much play. Before you tear into it, try to locate the main cause. A lot of times you will just find dry bearings/ or no real cause. Lube it all good and you are good to go. Just don`t do it the night before a trial. I`ve done that and had needle bearings all over the floor!

Waterproof grease.

I used wheel bearing grease on my bearings. I had a similar problem and it was the rose bearing in the bottom of the shock. Had to completely disassemble the linkage and remove the shock, then press out the old one and press in the new one. There are complete sets available with all the needle bearings, etc so best to do them all if you are getting this deep into the bike.

Jim Snell, the GasGas USA importer has made many good videos that you can find on Youtube. Not sure about the linkage but it would not surprise me if he did.

Use branded quality stuff. Chevron do aircraft and boat grease brill stuff , iv'e used that but i just use Castrol LM 2 at £12 a tube . Don't use cheap **** on the linkage assembly.

I like Morris Lubricants K2 EP Lithium Complex Grease - you can look up the spec on the morris website. I only pay £3 a cartridge at my local supplier. Castrol CL is also good.

I think the best stuff is a grease Mobil developed for the channel tunnel boring machines, Its a tacky blue gel. can't remember the name and can't get it near where I live anymore. It used to be about 6 times the price of Shell alvania (a good grease) but its performance was far superior.

when i first had my gas gas i was worried about the play you describe; ripped it all down and cleaned and repacked bearings ....... still play - phoned up gas gas uk and spoke to a techie '' they all have that play'' was his response ............... so, a year later and a further grease with the stuff posted above and all is good.

So guy I am after relubing my pro 280 2002 linkage .. There is a bolt on kick start side which runs through swinging arms .. Does this need to be removed ?? I loosed.it hen was worried the back end would come off so retightened .. Do arms need to be removed for relube .. Thanks
