Venables' Clockwork Mice

Hi,

Ralph used to poke a great deal of fun at the microbikes that were emerging from the Gaunt and Sprite workshops - yet they achieved some spectacular results on occasions.

Several members have called me and asked if I have any pictures, and, lo and behold, offroadarchive comes up trumps again!

The first shows Peter Gaunt in the 1969 British Experts on his 90cc Gaunt Jawa, and there are more to come - just ask if you are interested.

Enjoy.

Hi,

The second is of Peter in the 1970 SSDT on Pipeline, watched by Peter Howdle - well known journalist at the time - and keen trials rider himself.

Enjoy.

Can't see Peter Howdle but I can see Bill Martin top left.

I think Peter is running a slightly larger tank for the Scottish.

Not only is that Bill Martin at the top of the cropped picture, correct me if I'm wrong but I think the other guy is Tony Bingley, and if I'm right, his son Gary has entered this year's Scottish and no doubt hoping he'll be successful in the ballot.

Hillary -- Great spot (if it's correct).

I, personally, prefer spectator spotting to the bikes and riders, which we've seen all before anyway.

And much less controversial than crankshaft balancing (you don't win any friends with that one).

Deryck - less runners and riders -- more spectators, please, but no more trickery where you crop out the named watcher.

Regards

Sparks
