I have bought the KTM Freeride - E. I know it's not a trials bike but after seeing my son take his Lipo'd Oset 20 to places a petrol bike can't go I was sold on an e bike.

Almost bought the EM5.7 but the lack of dealer support put me off, the KTM has a 3 year warranty on battery and charger and a 2 year warranty on the bike itself plus the backing of the biggest player in dirt bikes.

Anyway, my van has a 12v power output and I was thinking I could run an inverter to recharge the bike whilst I have a break - full charge is just over an hour. Realise I am likely to have to run the engine as I do this.

On fast charge I need a constant output of at least 13 A and on normal charge 10 A is required. I have no idea what wattage I will need so am trying to understand what to look for in an inverter and if it even possible to run the charger from this power source.

If that is not possible I thought about using a petrol generator, but agin need advice on what to look for.

I know the inverter I have in the motorhome gobbles battery even just charging the laptop off it and it's not drawing anything like 13A. You might want to consider a second "leisure" battery for this, wired up appropriately so it charges when engine running. Alternately, if you're going to have to run the engine, then a cheap generator is probably a better solution. Quickmath says that 230volts and 10 amps is 2300watts while standardcharging.

2300watts @ 12 volts is approx 200 amps and thats not doable in a good way from a 12v carbattery so i recommend a petrolgenerator as suggested above.

Interesting to see what kind of runtime the ktm has please feedback on that later.

Thanks guys, thought I would need a petrol generator. Had the bike a week now and really rate, it's performance is good.

In terms of run times, if I am using it like an MX bike, throttle wide open then I get 40 mins. If it's more trail/technical riding then 1.5 hours is possible. Its charge time is fast, 50 mins gets to 80% charge and just over an hour is full charge.

It is very agile, and you can really throw it around, so far I am impressed - it's performance is better than expected.
