I have just purchaced an immaculate 04 sy250 previously ridden by a clubman, unfortuatly here in western australia, having the only SY does pose a problem. What are the pit falls on this machine, the tank does look more vunerable than the others makes (especially the way I ride)does anyone produce a tank cover as such? or do I just endevour not to stack it! Ive noticed various aftermaket add ons for the bike, exhaust gaurd, bashplate and water pump protector. How many of you guys have burnt your legs, sheared the water pump or slid side ways off a log? are these add ons essential or just nice to have? Any recommendations on any add ons or mods that will assist me before I slowly demolish the bike over the next five seasons would be greatful!

Beta Rev 3 Coil Cover makes a good Water Pump cover.

I would highly recomend a decent water pump guard and front pipe guard. Ive seen a couple of water pumps get smashed off off really small knocks, and i used to burn my leg quite often on the front pipe, never heard of any type of covers for the tank though sorry. You could put some of the thick clear sticker stuff on the corners for a bit of protection.

Shercool is on the button, get that water pump protected. I got a small plate welded on to the bash plate but you could use many other ways. The beta coil cover is used by many riders so it must work.

I too used to burn my leg until I bought a guard for the exhaust, you could make one of these with ease though.

I don't think you'll need to protect the tank unless you're really unlucky.

There's not much else you need to do really, just ride!

I saw it. It was the week later that i broke mine. I was kicking myself. Got rid of the Scorpa now anyway.

The flat bashplate is a good investment! It also gives better protection for the waterpump. Keith Marchant modified his pump so the outlet is angled in like the factory racing ones. Paul Arnott has kevlar exhaust guards and I think we can also get alloy ones too. I haven't burnt my leg or damaged the pump but I would preffer a flat skid. The angled bit at the front that can test the balance of a lower grade rider when you miss judge a rock or get on a greasy log.

Happy Scorpa riding, I might make the titles over there next year and we can catch up then. In the meantime I have found a good backcracker and am starting to ache a little less.
