May 23, 201610 yr Hi, my ty 250 mono was running flat, had both my mx race bikes stolen so funds have been an issue of late but finally i took the top end apart and put in new piston rings, piston looked fine and barrel had minimal scoring Ran in the bike today (whether i needed to or not with just the rings) it DOES have a little bit more power but It's definitely still not at full power What could be causing the bike to run so sluggish? Could anything to do with the carb be the issue? It literally starts 1st kick Thanks
May 23, 201610 yr First of all sluggish compared to what ? Part of that bikes success was it's lack of power which helped lots of people find grip without ever having throttle control, including me. For example a 240 Fantic in my view had more power although it's was only a 212cc. A 300 Fantic or 240 swm had more power by some margin. Compared to your mx bikes it would be more like a 125. So to help you why do you think it's flat, what are you comparin to ?
May 23, 201610 yr Is the exhaust clear? No severe carbon build up or dents stopping the flow of exhaust gases?
May 23, 201610 yr Author Well my ty 175 has much more power, put it that way No dents, i burnt the exhaust out to clear the carbon build up Also it use to have more power when i first got it im sure... I don't know what it is im even contemplating buying another one because i loved riding it when it was at full power, more than mx!
May 23, 201610 yr Whilst a good carb clean won't do any harm I have known the perforated tube in a silencer to either fracture or come loose such that it falls down and no longer link the two ends of the silencer, causing an obstruction.

May 23, 201610 yr Does it rev cleanly or sound choked ? When the coils on the stator start to fail the bike won't rev very high
May 23, 201610 yr Author It does sound abit choked, like as if it's not getting enough fuel to build the revvs higher How could i check to confirm it's the coils? Yes I literally took the exhaust off, barbecued it hah my dad showed me a little trick to burn out the inside, sounded like a jet engine when he did it
