November 16, 20178 yr New to site so excuse if this has been discussed previously but is there a replacement left side crankcase cover like a Honda CRF that allows oil filter changes without taking the complete side cover off?
November 16, 20178 yr no sorry you need to remove the side cover but its not an issue. lay the bike on the right side and take the cover off, this way you wont lose any oil and its not as messy
November 16, 20178 yr Given that you have to wiggle the filter past the flywheel it would make no difference - the other bikes have smaller flywheels (if any) so the filter comes straight out. I can't help thinking that Honda could have reduced the diameter of the flywheel by a fraction and compensated by making it slightly thicker to compensate, thus allowing straight removal via a small cover. Oil loss is hardly an issue as surely nobody changes the filter without changing the oil at the same time? Edited November 16, 20178 yr by 2stroke4stroke
November 16, 20178 yr Still easier to do with the bike on its side as the cable to the flywheel cover is not stressed. Bash plate off as well to avoid any problem with gasket. And put the the "new" oil in before refitting the cover - much quicker than pouring through that little hole if you don't.
