240 Fantic Wes Silencer

Featured Replies

My son is in the process of fabricating a new silencer for me, and although he has plenty of experience with car, train, bus and tram silencers and could wing it - he doesn't know about two stroke stuff and I want to get it right.

So, Has anyone got a modern (WES type) silencer for the 240 that they have repacked? If so, could you send me a rough drawing of the internals baffle / packing setup so I can obtain a similar performance.

Plus, does fitting a modern non standard silencer entail a carb jetting change etc?

Use a straight through perforated tube of internal diameter 1 inch.

This is pretty much the standard set up for all tailboxes.

Go smaller for smoother power, bigger for faster reving.

Use a perforated sheet with as many small holes as possible, this helps sound absorbtion.

Cheers Mattylad, just the info I wanted.

We did some research on the internet and found out about the straight through design, but I wondered about the actual size (length / dia) of the perforated tube and the likely effects on performance - hence the query about the WES make, thinking that they would have the optimum size.

WES are all approx 1" diameter, as they make such a wide range there are clearly other solutions. Go with the basis and you will not be far wrong.

I can supply you with the perforated tube and end cap from a WES 200 Fantic exhaust. They are used but will clean up and have plenty of life left. I broke the bracket off holding the end can to the frame so have orderd a new one.
