January 7, 20215 yr Hi, I'm just wondering if people alter the foot peg position on a bultaco 159, I've read before on other old trials bikes that people alter them so they are lower and further back. What's everyone's thoughts just before I send the frame away to get blasted and painted?
January 8, 20215 yr Personal choice really, when the bikes were new the bars then were much taller than now, 7 or 8" rise so the footpeg position was never an issue. Now the bars are 6" ,max so the riding position can feel a bit cramped for taller riders. The pegs on the 159 Sherpa are close to the bottom frame tubes so there is not much scope to lower them by much, 1" maybe. How far back will get many opinions, mine is they don't necessarily need to go back once lowered but if they do either under or just behind the s/arm spindle.
January 8, 20215 yr Author thanks guys, im 6 foot 2 so I might lower them, I have just ordered new foot pegs and brackets and my local fabricator will alter them for me.
January 8, 20215 yr You will be able to see how far back and down you can go with the new brackets and pegs. Don`t go lower than the bashplate though.
January 8, 20215 yr Something to consider when moving them back is the side stand, if you want to retain it this might be a limiting factor.
January 9, 20215 yr My sidestand spring is a fair way off my footpeg. I may look close in that photo but it`s not.
