DC trailer - tyre protection

Recommended Posts

I have a DC lightweight trailer, but slightly concerned at the sharp angle iron bits where the tyres sit, especially when compressed with tie downs.  Has anyone modified theirs to help with this? Im thinking either fill gaps with ply, or chop up and old tyre to cover the sharp bits?

Any hot tips for tie downs too? Other than the usual round the bars/clamps and foot pegs? Might try a ‘tyre down’ for the rear tyre.

Pump the tyres up before transport.  Even if you protect the tread the sidewall is under stress.

Always do this too.

In terms of tie downs, I use Jitsie ones round the handlebars as the loop round the bar damaged things less than a hook (had the latter for my previous bike and it rubbed the top of forks. Then standard tie downs from foot peg brackets. And I just have tight bungees to secure both wheels to the trailer. And the job’s a good ‘un!
