tinwelp
Hello, I'm a noob to the forum, having just bought an Explorer. It needs some work, nothing dramatic, just fork seals and wheel bearings... oh, and a cylinder head to replace the cracked original... all which are in-hand. I've not ridden it much yet, but already it's a bit obvious the suspension lacks refinement. What I'd really like to do is replace everything with the TR280i kit, but parts seem almost as elusive as rocking-horse poop. Is anyone breaking a TR or have a shock and forks they're willing to part with? Thanks in advance. Cheers... Paul
lemur
What country do you live in? Guessing UK only because you called it breakers but used parts are not something you shop for internationally. Shocks and forks are not something I would buy used anywhere and you can buy those items new without needing to be OEM branded.
tinwelp
Thanks for your response lemur. I live in France, but I'm a Brit ex-pat. I'm not sure I understand your comments. Why wouldn't you shop for used parts internationally and why wouldn't you buy used suspension parts? I've a long history of buying new and used stuff from all over the world, so I don't have an issue there. Why do you? Having parts in hand, even if they are worn or damaged is better than not having anything. Worn can be rebuilt and broken can be repaired... Thanks anyway. Cheers... kurtas
From memory the suspension was the same between the trials and the explorer variant. Marzocchi forks and Ohlins rear shock.
konrad
The trials model definitely had superior suspension to the Explorer. But I think going forward, the Explorer will be a very desirable bike. I expect some trials models will get sacrificed to keep Explorers running. I'd suggest buying a ratty trials model to use as a donor. Edited Friday at 12:01 AM by konrad

The Explorer has Marzocchi forks with steel stanchions, the TR aluminium; the rear shock of the Explorer is an Ollé and the TR has an Öhlins. Cheers... Not a bad suggestion, but sadly, very unlikely to happen. Cheers... Paul

Why wouldn't you shop for used parts internationally and why wouldn't you buy used suspension parts? You can buy brand new forks and a brand new shock that fits right onto your bike which is relatively fast easy and expensive, used suspension parts are not worth my time and money unless they are local sourced, I need parts now and 100% working, not more parts that need fixing. International purchase and shipping of parts might be easy where you live, not here in North America, If my Ossa rider friend that owns about five OSSA bikes doesn't have the parts, they likely don't exist in my country, ymmv. tinwelp
You are lucky to have such a friend lemur, and although buying new parts is a potential solution, new OSSA specific parts simply cannot be found anywhere that I've searched to date. If you have a source, please share. On the flip-side, you live in the USA and your political leader has pretty much forced isolation upon you. Not my business of course, but that's obviously going to affect how you find your solutions. Fortunately, I don't have to deal with that, and the rest of the world is a big place... which has yet to provide what I need! Some patience and further enquiries needed, methinks. Thanks for your input. Cheers... Paul

I'd hook you up with Norm the OSSA god if you lived closer, he only lives 2 or 300 kilometre away and you are correct I am lucky to have lots of good rider friends 😎 several are motorcycle dealers and that helps too. tinwelp
The Canada-France relationship is still intact, despite the attempts of the orange guy. Please hook me up as I regularly move things along this route. It may help Norm's economy a little... Thanks. Cheers... Paul
kurtas
GasGas had the same forks at the time, so you could look at them also.
