I dont even watch it any more. Participation is at all time low in my local clubs, so the manufacturers have got to be feeling it and I imagine WTC is their largest expense. IMO WTC needs a total redirection. I lost a lot of respect for Toni a few years hearing him talk about the direction he thinks trials should go, appealing to spectators and not to people entering the sport, so im not sure who is going to lead the charge. Maybe the manufacturers

French site www.trial-club.com Interview with Marc Teissier owner of SHERCO/SCORPA. Watch it on Youtube not the site , on you tube you should get a proper audible spoken translation in good english.

I went to the Andorra round this year and it was a packed, great event. The same at Geddington last year (Anglesey looked rubbish for spectators this year).

I don’t think the world rounds are dead at all. It won’t reflect club trials the same as Tiger Woods doesn’t reflect a golf club event.

Manufactures are however dropping their full factory teams. Although they are still represented in the supporting classes.

If you ran Vertigo, TRS or Scorpa would you run a full factory team with absolutely no chance of beating Bou? Is it worth that cost?

It’s not Bou’s fault and he’s breathtaking to watch. They’ve tried to mix things up with the super tests etc in the same way Formula 1 did with sprint races when that also became uncompetitive. As a spectator in Andorra, it didn’t work. We didn’t have a clue what was going on.

At Andorra, the sections were impossibly hard. Really, only 3 riders could actually ride them. The other 6 riders in Trial 1 really struggled. At the bottom of the field, some riders didn’t make genuine attempts at the sections. Then Bou rode them like the easy course at a club trial. He dropped 3 marks over 2 full days of trialing.

When he retires, perhaps the sections will ease, more riders can compete and factory teams will return.

Spectators and riders numbers at WTC events do not matter . It is bike sales that are the problem. If NEW bike sale numbers do not go up soon then manufacturers will shut their doors and therefore there will be no world championship to watch.
