October 14Oct 14 I bought a set of dimple plates for my 2026 Montesa 260 4RT I expected to see smooth plates with dimples in it but to my surprise every dimple is surrounded by a tiny edge which lays above the surface of the plate. It seems to me as if it has been forgotten to grind them flush. I can feel them real good so I doubt if this will work.I am affraid it will destroy the clutch in no time.Anyone with experience can give me advise in this?Shouldn't I grind this flush and smooth?
October 15Oct 15 I definitely would file them off If I was going to use them , but they sound like they are cheap rubbish from how you described them. Perhaps a better brand of product may be worth the extra expense.
October 15Oct 15 Author Thanks for your replyI bought them from a well known Montesa specialist, not my dealer, so I expected to receive some decent quality but I'm affraid you're right. What is a good brand?I don't have any experience in this matter.I think I can get them in a useable shape but it will take some time Edited October 15Oct 15 by Adriaan
October 15Oct 15 Think I’d be contacting the supplier & asking their opinion/advice. You might have got a poorly finished product or it could be a new trend. I think general consensus would be to dress the raised edges down smooth but who knows. Why should you have to do this on a brand new item. Refund or replacement calls or we’re all daft.😂.
October 22Oct 22 Author I received an answer from my supplier. The plates are Apico but it looks as if there has been a bad batch, as if the finishing touch is missing. My supplier's supplier has received more complaints on this issue.Meanwhile I have ordered a set at the Splatshop so fingers crossed Edited October 22Oct 22 by Adriaan
2 hours ago2 hr Author I received the apico dimple plates this week. I have rounded and polished the teeth a little bit. Just because I could. And today I have tried them for the first time. The improvement is huge. Really smooth operation, absolut better control on the clutch.Good update, all togetherThe original plate as it came out Versus the sligthly polished Apico plateThe apico teeth, before polishing, looked very similar to the original plates so there is some improvement.I don't know if it makes any difference in operation but it won't hurt either.
