  1. As luck, good or bad, will have it I might be doing some horse trading for a 2002 Beta Rev 3 270. My fellow club member's 10 year son rides it and it is too much bike and he looks at my Sherco 125 with those eyes ... you know the ones we get when we fall in love with a new (to us) bike. And the truth is it is a better fit for him and his is a better fit for me. I am making the jump from vintage to modern (or I should say riding both). I bought the Sherco 125 so I could be schooled in modern technique - I've never used a clutch and brakes cannot be counted on. I ride a Bull Sherpa 250 and love it. I tried bigger modern bikes but they get away from me and I get in trouble and that freaks me out. I'm just not a fan of launching myself off the side of a mountain into outer space. Can anyone expound upon the personality of the 2002 Rev 3 270? I am a novice level rider and have to ambitions to ever hop rocks. Thank you, Cheers. Travis
  2. Hi, I have read that the Model 49 325 is 'basically' a 325 'bored out'. No doubt this is an exaggerated statement, but is it possible to 'upgrade' a 250 bottom end with a 325 cylinder & piston?
  3. I've been try ing to find out for ages what Piston Vesty is using that's 280 CC? Anybody care to take a guess?
  4. Hello, I chatted up Mieke de Vos at the SSDT who mentioned there are events throughout the year and they were posted here at TC, I tried finding some 2017 events but was able. I live in the States and would love to come over for an event as a vacation (of course, I'd have to rent a bike as well). This is really a dream come true for me. Due to hardship (both financial and medical - I had a stroke, cancer, both hips replaced, divorced and bankrupt but I AM BACK like the flash!) I haven't had a vacation in over 10 years and recently returned to twin shock trials. I have a pair of 1974 Sherpa T (250 & 325) that I love. Any pointers would be great and thank you. your brother from the States, Travis Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! Today at 3:22 AM

    Motak Sherpa 280

Hi, I realize I am several years late to the party, but is Motak Racing Sherpa 280 still in existence? I can't find them! Thanks

    Motak Sherpa 280

Hi, man am I glad I found this thread. I have a 73 ish Model 92 parts bike fitted with a Model 49 250 motor, about mid way in the serial number range. Its got Sammie Miller rear shocks, some front springs we found laying around in the shop that work great, OKO 26 mm carb and electronic ign. I've got it geared 11/52 as we have alot of technical rock sections here. I alternate a 11/48. It also has a late model Alpina front hub which greatly improved front braking. I am keen to implement some of these mods. My initial interest was to move to a ported 280 but as I see the Motak 280 I spy what looks like swingarm mods. Can anyone point me to information about how I might go about this? I'd prefer to use local talent but buy the parts as much as possible. Is the gas gas 74 mm piston easily obtainable and is that all you need (piston kit)? What does that swingarm mod do?
  7. I have a 26mm OKO carb and electronic ignition on both by Model 49 and 92 "350". It was a big improvement on both bikes but mostly they start nice adn crisp on the first kick. The 250 is much quicker but it would be nice if I could get more power and retain the snap of the 250. I'm pretty sure this is what Yuro is after and why he went to a 280...I also put a later model Alpina front wheel on the 250 and that improved front braking (alot)
  8. I am interested in doing some engine mods to one or both of my Sherpa T's. I read that YRGO runs a 280 cc 250 bored out from a 250. My buddy has a factory 370 engine made for one of the heavier American riders from back in the day. Can anyone shed any productive light or opinion on this subject? Thanks!
  9. Thank you so much! I decided to leave the 49 motor as is and look for a 325. The springs in the forks is an easy mod so I will work on that; it looks like I am getting a later model (larger) hub next Sunday. I will work on getting the shoe liners from the fork lift. I am about 100 kilos (215 pounds). Thank you so much!
  10. HI, I have a total parts bike: Model 49 motor MAYBE 1970 (with the shift on the right which is unusual in the states), a frame from a 1974 350 (serial number in the 90's) and tank/panels from a real 1970. Except for the brakes, it has been nicely restored including a new electronic ignition. I previously posted about the front brake but have no idea where I posted. I apologize. The front brake is so bad you can forget any downhill and the bike is dangerous to ride. I have two artificial hips so I must have a stopper. I bought a Sherco ST 300 and sold it after 2 months because I hated the modern bike and I don't want to be a xtreame rock hopper. I feel the Bull is a elegant, classy, and I love to ride it. Most of the feedback seems to point to a Pershang front wheel/hub and putting SM shoes all the way around. We have a local rider in expert class with this mod to his 350 and he is up for helping me. Here are some other ideas I would love to have some feedback. (1) I read in this forum (lost the post) about replacing the springs in the forks - any direction here would be great. I read about swapping out OSSA components but I'd rather keep is simple (2) I read the early 325 were 250 bored - how could I find parts/info about boring out my 250? Remember, this is a total parts bike and does not have collector value. (3) My local rider friend welded Sherco footpegs further to the rear. Thoughts? Finally, I really wanted a front disc brake and that seemed a total dead end until I met Yrjo Vesterinen. He build a parts bike over the last three years and - he's got a disc front brake. How did he do that? I'm going to add some photos shortly to this post. I'm for any mod and am not worried about class status ...thank you all so much. Travis If you close at 'WhatBikesThis' I first thought he made a front disc - now I am not so sure but I'd still like to know what system/type it is! Thank you
  11. I'm looking for a 325/350 jug and piston set to fit my 250 or a complete engine if anybody knows anything - I think my frame and engine are from 1970. I think.
  12. I bought a parts bike that a local guru put together. I think it's a 1970/72 hybrid. Shifter on the right, brake on the left. The brakes are simply a nod to breaking - they are very close to useless. The motor purrs, it handles great, and the clutch is solid. I was thinking - and this is where I really need you all's advice - I'd like to bore it out and fix the brakes. If there's a clutch trick I'm game. It's already got a CDI ignition and OKO carb. I've attached photos if that helps. I love this bike but I need brakes and more power couldn't hurt. So I was hoping to get some concrete advice on "how to" and / or "where to" Thank You!

    Brake Secrets

HELP. I had to ride a powerline downhill on a loop Sunday and my 1972 Sherpa T tried to kill me. I looked like a flying chicken coming down the mountain. Finally spied some bushes and fearlessly threw myself in. I had 16 out of 16 cleans when I overshot a hill and went out of bounds because the front brake cannot be sure what it wants to do. I love the Bull but I need brakes that work. I read the entire thread but am not really sure if there was a solution!
  14. Howdy everybody, Rootsman2 here. I started riding back in the day first on a Suzuki Trail 90 and went on to ride Junior class on a British Penton 125 and wound up on a MAR. Coming back, I bought a 1972 Sherpa T and a Sherco ST 300. Rode 3 events on the Sherco - won them all - but hated the power and clutch so I sold it. Went back to the Bull. Rode an event Sunday and cleaned 18 sections before my arthritis shut me down. Still love the Bull
