Hi all, I went to my first trial on Sunday at a quarry, I've only had my bike for around a month. Got my numbers then went to look at the sections, they were too difficult and intimidating to attempt. One of the riders told me not to attempt the course and to try the conducted route instead. Initially I wanted to give the adult route a go, so lined up with the other riders. They were practicing riding up and down a stony bank, so I thought to myself 'that looks easy, lets give it a go', this ended in charging up the bank, launching into a wheelie at the top and thoroughly embarrassing myself by forgetting the rear brake and ending up on the floor. I'm considering a new helmet. I currently have a Hebo Jeroni replica. It is comfortable but very hot even in winter weather. I'm considering a Shiro vented helmet or maybe an NZI. The problem with the NZI is that it doesn't fit my head that well and would require some carving on a brand new helmet. Other choices are the On Off carbon hemet or the Shoei helmet. Neither are vented but may be better than what I have. Anyone with any experience with these helmaets? Thanks!!

Like many of you on this site I have been around the trials scene for over thirty years now. Heard many urban myths, street lore, snake oil, and some basic nonsense about mechanics of trials bikes, their engines, carbs and suspension. In your opinion what are some of these myths and lore that are off the wall? Love to hear your experiences on this topic.

Right, ive heard the standard shock on a sherco isnt that good and was wondering what replacements there are. The ones ive found are the ohlins one and these new TRP ones. Does anyone know if these are any good and how much a TRP shock is (they look so damm good in orange) Any help much appreciated

Just being nosey.... Mine was just after i started riding, I was at a trial with the Huddersfield Falcons on my Twin shock Bultaco. Going round a tree at the top of a steep decent, sharp left turn downhill. Just as I went over a large tree root the front wheel went onto full lock and started to go end over end. I just lept upwards and grabbed a branch as the bike went down the banking flipping about 4 times. I was left dangling at the top and all the bike got was a broken clutch lever! There was no way I was going down there with it and the people at the botton were left laughing at me hanging in the tree!

Hi all I'm close to buying a trials bike to use for local trail riding and playing about - and I might do the odd trial from time to time too. I live in the Frech Alps and have been tooling about on my DRZ400. It's fine on the jeep tracks, but all around me are amazing looking 'goat' tracks and areas to 'play' which the DRZ is just way to big and heavy for. So, cue the trials bike. The last trials bike I had was a twin shock TY175 back in the early 80's when I was riding class C. I was just wondering what sort of fuel range I might get out of a modern (say 1998 onwards) bike? Montesa 4RT260 vrs Beta 4T I could only find pretty old discussions. I'm considering picking up a 4 stroke for my trail riding. I already have a great bike for that (OSSA Explorer) but it does have quite a lot of hours now and with parts probably getting harder to get in the future I'm thinking of adding a bike. The Beta 4T is lighter I know, great reports and look very well made. The Montesa has FI, reported to be very reliable and well made. Anyone have a fair amount of time on both and offer comparisons? Hi, coming from having road bikes all my adult life, and being a m/c mechanic and machinist, I know about chains and lube. But, now I've got into trials bikes as well, i'm in a dilemma about lubing the chains on my two ty250 mono's. Where I ride, the soil is almost like a lime, sandy condition. Whatever is put on the chain, either proper aerosol Silkolene chain spray, or g/box oil from an oil can spout just on the rollers, it's just like flies being attracted to sh... Anything will attract the sand. So. lately I've been running the chains dry, no lube and giving them a brush down post ride. At 12 quid for a new length of brand name chain locally, this seems my b…

I maintain my Sons Repsol 4rt & since moving up to National and road trials we are getting through wheel bearings at a Great rate, have used branded & cheap and had a dealer fit a set when changing a tyre makes no difference I even remove the dust covers and re-grease them. Obviously it is worse on the rear wheel. How long do everyone else's last please.

Do any of you folks add them to your bikes ? I always forget when fluids were changed so I probably over change them ... I got the way cool flush / flanged allen head skid plate mount bolts I used on the aluminum plate I modified to fit the 240 , Quality stuff from what I've seen .
