General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by scraggydog,

Fancied changing my present bike for a nearly new 200. I am a novice rider though I am note intimidated by the power of a big bike. To my mind a 200 would seem to be the ideal compromise of power to weight though they do not seem popular with other riders. Does anybody thoughts or experience of 200s. Thanks, Scraggydog

Sorry if this has been asked a billion times but I need some advice, I'm 46 yrs old and weigh 16 stone, I have road raced and competed in events such as the worlds fastest wheelie record and hold a couple of records, I'm retiring from the road and have my bike up for sale currently, Im torn between a Gas Gas and Beta 250 to start my Trials initiation, I have messed about on Trials bikes donkeys years ago on the fields near where I live but have never competed, are there any major differances betweeen the 2 bikes if so what are they please. p.s I'll be looking at a 2002 -2003 bike.

While surfing I stumbled upon this: http://www17.plala.or.jp/fumi-style/images_f/2009TYS.jpg Described as a Yamaha TYS 250F, it is clearly a Scorpa but with some interesting works-style mods, silencer and shocker reservoir being the most obvious. Can anyone shed any light? Are they retailed there as Yams or are they test beds for Scorpa developement?

Caby has gone back to the 2T, Mont are looking a bit ragged in the sales dept and Gasser seem to have halted development of their 4T. Have the 4T's died a death? Have the FIM given up trying to dictate to us? Discuss. (Andy, please "pin" the Dabster poll. It's a shame to bounce it from the top of the list)

  6. I often read here that many British trials riders like to venture across the channel and I would just like to update on a couple of issues that will more than likely be implemented next year .... All bikes, pre 65, twinshock and modern must have lights front and rear fitted . Kill switches / buttons will no longer be accepted as they will require the type that is used in speedway. ie. a cord round the wrist connected to the kill device that then your hand leaves the bars it activates etc etc ... I am lead to believe that this has been forced upon the clubs by the federations who in turn have been lent on by the insurance advisors. This may be subject to change but t…

  9. Sorry if this is the wrong section, but I thought this subject is not specific to one make of bike and would get more chance of getting a reply in this section. The new style Braktec monobloc brakes have two covers on the front face (as seen in the attached photo), which look like Torx, but the size of Torx wrench has me stumped, on where to get that size. Anybody else removed these covers, what tool did you use please? Thanks for your assistance. Cheers

So now all the manufacturers are going to produce 4 strokes does that mean they will discontinue the 2 stroke models? I ask because as a rider I do not personally want to endulge in a 4 stroke machine but at the same time I dont want to have to stick with an old 2 stroke that is at some point going to wear out and maybe need replacing! Im sure the new generation 4 strokes will be great machines but the expense and maintenance of them isnt an option for me and being involved in the MX scene as well I have seen the costs of rebuilds and it is crippling! Now I know MX bikes need a lot more maintenance anyway but I still dont want the risk! A whole load of MX boys and girls a…

Hi all, Just dug my dads Aprilia CLimber out of the shed for my annual terrified ride on the beast! Cleaned carb up etc , and first ride went fine...then on the second ride, the carby was playing up. DOnt think it could have got dirty that quick eh?? I'd used some 2 stroke oil that had been in the shed (already openend bottle) for over a year...just wondered if that is the culprit, maybe its gone off??.. I will of course give the carb another clean anyway, and I guess I should chuck that old bottle of Silkolene and start with a new one? Being a tight bugger, I just dont wanna chuck an almost full bottle of 2T away. SO.....should I chuck it or shouldnt I???

How to remove rear, or front, wheel bearings? The spacer between the bearings has a slightly smaller ID than the bearing. Can heating the hub and driving this ridge with a brass drift get the bearing out?
