I often read here that many British trials riders like to venture across the channel and I would just like to update on a couple of issues that will more than likely be implemented next year ....

All bikes, pre 65, twinshock and modern must have lights front and rear fitted . Kill switches / buttons will no longer be accepted as they will require the type that is used in speedway. ie. a cord round the wrist connected to the kill device that then your hand leaves the bars it activates etc etc ...

I am lead to believe that this has been forced upon the clubs by the federations who in turn have been lent on by the insurance advisors. This may be subject to change but things are hotting re bike registration, bike licence and insurance with even the more laid back clubs fearfull of turning a blind eye as the stakes have been raised considerably.

eh oui...vie moderne...mind you I was encouraged to buy "ripcord" kill buttons this summer in view of next years rules... absolute rip off pricewiays and I was very negative about it (having managed without one for the last 43 years of competitive riding) however it has paid for itself in relation to cost of falling off damages that I/we would have otherwise incurred.

After watching the young bucks in action sunday throwing themselves at large steps whilst now wearing body armour as well as the normal trials garb,as well as a minder to catch the flailing bike I guess the new kill button rule may well be nessecary. Me plodding around on my Ariel, twinshock and or aircooled mono may be a little OTT. The insurance issue and bike registration etc has got to be good though. Perhaps trials riders should do the French time honoured thing of striking... against these new introductions ... the road riders here are all at it because they don t agree with the introduction of MOTs on motorcycles .

plodding you may be but if you were the one insuring the risk, ariie or twinshock would you take the chance?
