General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by heffergm,

So I've got an odd clutch problem. The bite point basically moves around, typically in, up to a point. After the clutch is let back out, the engagement point will gradually migrate its way back to where it was originally, as evidenced by the free play in the lever. Another way of saying this: set free play to ~2mm, pull the clutch in a bit, let it out, free play is now 6mm. Leave it alone for ~10 seconds and the free play is now back where it was originally set. I've put a master cylinder rebuild kit in it once already, and the problem seemed to improve, but it's now back to being as bad it was originally. I've got a new master cylinder coming. I don't see evidence t…

I see Cabestany comprehensively beat Raga in the first round of the Spanish Indoor Championship. Are we seeing a resurgence in Albert's performances of late? Its no wonder the Spanish riders are dominating the Indoor WTC when their season has already started.

I've set this as an announcement at the top of every forum, but I don't think it's too noticeable. If you can spare the time, I'd like everyone to take a few minutes out to run through a survey I'm running to help me gain a better understanding of my readership and shape the future of the site. Even if you just use the forums, please take the time to run through it if you can as the forums are a key area of the site. Full details here Thanks in advance Andy

  5. Whilst trawling the web to order some parts for the Majesty, cables a lever etc. Non genuine parts I noticed how the prices vary by pounds and not pence for simple stuff like cables etc. Is it me or has anyone else here noticed the same. I do when I can support the firms that advertise on TC but of the ones in question none advertise on here. At the end of the day J K Hirst got my business and they will get future business from me. I would like to name and shame the greedy one but I am sure I would get a slapped wrist from TC .

I posted this question down the line in another thread, but seems nobody read it! Or Knows? I do believe it worth checking into! Just because it does work! I guess Mr Honda thought the same! I am qurious to know if the same air filter cleaning and oiling products as offered here now by Honda are used there in UK. It is basically the No-Toil products, of water based bio- degradeable, cleaner(powder) and a special high tack oil that is easily emulsified by the cleaner? And easier on the foam filter it seems. I have used it for years now, long before I found it on the shelf at the local Honda shop. The pair of bottles lasts me all year for your = to about 7-8 quid! A …

first trials bike, I currently ride a ktm450 xc but have wanted a trials bike for *many* years. Any thoughts on a scorpa 250? Like the yami powerplant in terms of reliability. Lurking around there seems to be a fair amount of talk about clutch issues. Love the hydraulic clutch on my ktm - not sure if I can go back to conventional? Comments? Gassers seem quite popular but a couple of buddies ride gasser enduros and I am not that impressed with the build quality - not sure if the same applies to their trials bikes. Trials is almost non-existent in my area so its difficult to get to try some different bikes - will quite likely end up buying something over the net which is …

Just seen pictures today of the new cabastany replica bike (www.todatrial.com) I must admit I was hoping for something extra special, i really like the new style sherco but was holding of buying to see what the limited edition would look like, in comparison to the raga that has an endless list of branded parts! The new sherco just looks like some gold rims, sticker kit, s3 300 cylinder and that's pretty much all your extra hard earned pennies would buy you!! Although I do want to stick with riding a sherco, I'm now thinking your money goes a lot further on a raga.......

  10. I have noticed a lot of European members on this site (inclusive or exclusive of the UK), and it´d be nice to have an outlet to discuss mainland events and part sources. Most Trial riders that I have spoken to here in Spain have a good level of English (and of course we can forgive spelling mistakes), and since this is a useful site I was wondering if there might be a glimmer of a possibility at the very least. I have checked todotrial.com etc etc., and it doesn´t compare (though the future events section is very good). Just my 10 cents, as you say.

  11. Just to ask your opinion, what do you think about marketing of trial motorcycle brands? Do you think it affects on you if companies are marketing their trial motorcycles in competitions and other events? Would you prefer to first try the bike, or could you buy it just because it is "the best" brand and you trust it? Or would you rather take someone's advice, your friend, family, etc.? Our school project is to start a trial motorcycle factory, and we should think how to get connected with you, experts in the field? I would really be happy to get any advices and opinions about how to build the BEST trial motorcycle, where we should sell them, what else we should conside…

So I would like to buy a trials bike, I am using my brothers at the moment or more sharing it to be more accurate. I don't have a lot of money, in fact I am having to sell stuff to justify it. I hope to get to a £1000. I would like a 250, I don't mind to much what brand. What are the ones to go for. I know that's a little broad a question, so let me try and ask some more narrow. With the beta rev 3, we're there are major updates, ie what year should I aim for 2003 or newer? The early 2000 seem to have upside down forks should they be avoided? I am aware of the water pump / case issue. With gas gas last aluminium frame was there any issues with first year of product…

  14. Not good for trials if true With Honda Montesa releasing pictures of the new four-stroke, and the smaller companies facing an expensive task of keeping pace if the emissions ruling does become fact in 06, how will the smaller companies survive. The rumors going around the SSDT about Gas Gas investors pulling the plug and leaving the boss holding the baby in a large new factory need to be confirmed or denied before they turn into the rats leaving the sinking ship syndrome. Trials is too small and bad publicity about bikes even if it's only the local clubman with a sticking back brake the news gets around fast good or bad, can hurt sales more than we think. Is the pie …
