General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by jeeves88,

Hay, i have a Gas Gas 270, and its a brilliant bike any amount of power, really a bit too much for some occasions, but was thinking of a 125 for lightness and just a mess about bike and for smaller trials where the power isnt needed, but the question really was is it actually gonna be useful, im like 13 stone or something, i just figured they wouldnt have the poke sometimes for hill climbs? Cheers Chris

Being as uninterested in road bikes as I am, I have never passed my bike licence. This has led me to the way of thinking of a 125 on a provisional with a cbt. Has anyone got expierience of doing this. My intention is only short trips to practice ground but I wish to be legal. I currently ride a montesa 250 and am looking at the scorpa. Not seen any road registered?

My 13 year old son has started learning to ride a motorbike, and is cutting his reeth on a sy250 scorpa which is on long term loan from a friend. It's a little big for him, but has been fine to get the basics. I'd intended to move him onto a 125cc which might be a little lighter and easier to manage, but a couple of friends have suggested he stick with the 250. What's the consensous on the best route to build his skills and confidence? Is there any advantage of moving him to a 125 or should he stick with the older 250?

Hi all, Im planning to get started in trails again after some 15 years or so. My last bike was an 125cc gasgas (think it was a 1990 bike). The question is if i should go for a 125cc, or a bigger bike? Locally i have found a beta 270 rev3, and a 2009 125cc Sherco for the same price, after what i have been reading i understand that its easy to be tempted to buy a bike with a bigger engine then you have use for. I guess that alot has happened in the motor department since i last was riding trails and a 125cc might be enough for me (Im a small guy 60kg/175cm). Happy to hear about your experiences and ideas. //Mic

Hi Guys. My lad has a OSET 24R he's coming up to 16, he did have a 2012 Beta Evo 125 but he found it quite aggressive, plus he could do with a right side kick start, he does suffer from hip pain sometimes. So basically he's had a go on my Beta Evo 250 and liked it, but to have a crack at trials he will need a 125. My question is - What is a good 125 with right side kick and smoother than the old Beta, or is a new Beta smoother and easier to kick! Cheers Mark

Hi, new to the site Just bought my 15yr old stepson a scorpa 250 2 stroke 98/99 model. he is keen to ride it, obviously, but has never ridden a motorbike before. Bit of a beast for a first bike but I had a misspent youth riding road bikes starting with Honda and Yamaha 250's when I was 17. He's a big lad, plays rubgy for town and school and is a quick learner. Can anybody recommend a training school. I used to be a volunteer RAC/ACU Instructor and have done advanced Police training so I can teach him the basics and roadcraft, which is useful even though at his age he will be totally off road. I currently run a Bonnie America, but only when its hot cos now I am offic…

The 75 KT I am restoring has a threaded boss on the clutch perch for a mirror, but the front brake perch has no provision. I have been looking at all sorts of bikes, and I see some with a mirror, and others with none. What is the factory correct way? Thanks, Mark

Hi all help need please, I am looking to take my 1979 sherpa 350 on long distance trials next year. 80 to 100 miles in a day. I would really like to do something about the seat as I don't think my bum will take it. Anyone changed their seat for something with more padding than the standard seat. Any ideas will greatly be received by my bottom. Thanks.

  13. Hi I am looking for help/information about my 1980 Fantic 200 rear kick please. I am in the process of sorting out my Fantic 200 and the distance between the shock mounting points is 203mm from inside frame mounting point to inside mounting point at the top on the frame and 220mm for the same points on the swinging arm this does'nt seem right to me and nothing seems to be bent, even with the wheel in and done up the bottom distance is still 215mm so the rear shocks are not parallel. I wonder if someone has replaced the swinging arm with one from a different Fantic. Any views or help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  14. Started by Skinner,

The bike has been sitting for 8 yrs. The bike is like New and the carb was clean as can be. I have no problem kicking it over without the plug in. As soon as I put the plug in, It locks the kick starter in the top position. After 5-6 tries to kick over , it will kick over with lots of compression. After one kick thru , it locks up again for 5-6 kicks. The kick starter feels like it is totally locked it the top position when it takes 5-6 tries. I’m afraid that I will break the kick starter shaft. I also don't have a spark? Do you have any ideas on this? Thanks again Jerry

Hi all, I have recently acquired a 1984 ty 250 (Canadian model) I am wanting to restore the bike to original condition, ie - all original stickers included. The headstock has a sticker with the model information, but part of it is missing. I'm wondering if there is anyone here who can help with a pic of one. The one on my frame has the model numbers etc, but I need a pic of a complete one in order to have a new one made. Thanks in advance!

Hi ti all, replacing base gasket and I notice the existing one is made of a thick gasket paper and the genuine ones I see for sale all have the port cutouts where my old one does not. Only recently purchased and appeared to run ok but was leaking around the base gasket when hot. Many thanks for any advice. Cheers Rob from NZ.

Does anyone know of a rebuild kit for 1994 Scorpa 295 carburetor? It's got a Dellorto carb, think it's the original, but I'm not sure. If the rebuild kit isn't available, can I get a different carb? I'm from New Jersey, USA. Thanks & Cheers!
