  1. :D thanks again for all your ideas, toofasttim bash plate looks the biz and the no helmet would sort out the sweaty nappers,

your right i dont want to be to wide on some of the narrow sections.

and my riding is better than it was-- shall we say but i still want to deflect the inevitable damage that has and will occur to the old girl

the whole trials business is so addictive i cant stop!!!! thanks again.

    cheers murray

  2. hello guys was wondering if anyone has attached a bash plate under the tubes (159 frame) even adapted a ty plate or something?

i do not want to cut off the old tubes but as i trial most weekends the damage is inevitable on the caseings----would sacrifice a wee bit of ground clearance to gain protection

    any ideas welcome

    cheers murray

  3. hi guys just a quick question on the decompressor position as i am replacing the old one.

it has always been at the front but can the position under the tank(normal spark plug) position be used ie. swap them round

i thought i read this somewhere kind regards murray :)

  4. :D hi guys wondered if anyone has any clever (home-made) ideas about protecting the frame where your boots always rub the same place,i always try to present the old girl in -as good as- before each event and end up painting the same bits every time.

any ideas will be considered most welcome.

she is not a concourse bike ,she trials for real

    kind regards murray

  5. hi bondy the chain from clutch to flywheel ,my tensioner wheel came off because the chain was slack and rubbed the spindle away it is 30+ years old and have been trialing( well trying to )a fair bit this year--- something had to give -- thanks for your reply murray

  6. hi guys wondered if you can help with a couple of wee answers,

am putting on a new primary chain and the nut that holds on the fly wheel is wired i have always wired this nut but was wondering if i could replace it with a modern nylock nut ,would the atf affect it in any way?also what size is this nut?

second question, will i notice any difference in the bike with the new chain.(199a)

    kind regards mur

  7. hi guys will have a look at a couple of things on saturday ----the tip it on its side did work at the weekend an old guy(sure alan wont mind being called this) came over and did this after i had tried kicking over plenty ---and you guessed it, started right away----just thought there might be a more modern solution  thanks again murray

  8. hello guys wondering if you have any tips --starting from cold ---thought it was just a one off but she does NOT like a cold start,----once fired up first kick every time ---bike runs very well, lots of new parts, any thoughts or tips welcome, bing carb with choke lever ----kind regards murray

  9. :) hi guys just to close out this topic.....re-bore..new piston kit...small end...changed mix to 50:1 ...quality petrol...octane additive..fully synthetic oil.....new pressure test at 115 from 90psi..completed first trial yesterday the bultaco was so crisp and ran so well will have to adapt my riding style to compensate  thanks for all your helpful comments guys and lets keep these old girls running cheers Murray
  10. hi bondy its a bing carb---a possible solution has appeared via my wife who spoke to bultaco uk ,they say this has become very common for bultacos due to the additives in the fuel and have gave her some tips to try which i will do at the weekend and let you know thanks for your help bud cheers murray

  11. hi guys first thanks for all your suggestions and your patience on this one --still not running right, plug always looks dry ,engine hot,put a 46 idle jet in carb thought i had it ,ticked over ok but when reved slow to come down --- farted about with air screw-- turned into a bag of bolts sound but sounded quiet before this---is it maybe a fuel problem have taken a top end compression test and constant at 90psi is this good?? have immersed stripped carb in solution will leave and blow out later this week after this i am at a loss kind regards a rather depressed sherpa owner murray

  12. hi fitted electronic ignition from bultaco uk it has felt good and ridden well .will assemble tonight with a wee bit of sealant on gasket-- if this dosent work will inquire how to alter timing --thanks for all your help guys cheers

  13. hello again did a wee trial bike still overheating ---took head off to try new base gasket and saw looks like some gear oil on crank --stripdown again ---cases split ,cleaned, ready to reassemble tomorrow now the big question ----i would like to put a thin film of sealant on doth sides of the paper gasket i have been given green hermetite does any one have any advice on other sealers say at halfords or any other tips to take up any slight differances around the crank kind regards :wall: murray

  14. hello again put in new crank seals and o rings ,still hot, strip and clean carb, dump fuel , no smoke but still hot, then remembered had not annealed copper gasket on head, plus tightened head on bench not in frame.-----------------ran for 20min normal temp still to trial but looks good.------- :icon_salut: thought i would post the result as i once got a great tip on how to fit a kickstart return spring from the land of Aussie,

  15. hi it was a bit smoky i thought this would clear itself ,the whole engin felt hot right through to the club foot being very hot, lucky it was a scottish windy and cold day otherwise i might have done some damage.it had great response to throttle(well normal) and did not over run thanks again will maybe replace clutch side seal regards murray
