  1. Only had my bike a week but I'm wanting to drop the gear oil and was wondering what is the amount of gear oil in the TR280i and is it ok to use ATFQ or is there a recommended oil? Bike is 2011.

    Cheers

  2. Hi guys as title says really, looking to buy a 2011 280i and was wondering if there's anything I need to look out for specifically other than the normal stuff.

Really need the help as I'm tossed up between the Ossa and a late gold frame Raga, so peoples opinions on that too would be welcome.

    Cheers in advance fella's.

  3. No offence taken lol, it might be to much for me, I'm not sure what to get yet, do you live near sedgefield? Where do you ride?

Im from Bishop Auckland mate, there's a few places round here to ride. You'd probably be ok with that cabby mate, just be aware theyre snappy bottom end and you need to be on the ball with your clutch control. Your best bet is just to go through and have a go of it.

  4. Yes I think it is at sedgefield, I havnt been through, just looked at the ad, I'm pretty sure I'd be ok with it, Iv rode bikes for 15 years and I think iv got pretty good throttle control, i might be totally wrong, once my r1 is sold ill go up and have a look at it, has he got many bikes on stock?

He had a few in last time I was through. Not a massive set up but a canny bloke. Sorry mate I thought you were wanting this as your first bike.

  5. Hi guys,

I've just sold my Rev 3 and I'm in the market for a 04/05/06 TXT Pro 280 or 300.

Is there anything in particular I'll need to look out for in these models and also how do you tell they're the actual year there advertised.

As i know people do try to pass they're bikes off as a year or two younger than they actually are.

    Thanks in advance

  6. Hi guy's,

As per title, how do you do that standing 180 turn flip thing? I've been trying for a week or so now and just cant do it, not sure weather its my balance or my technique. So can someone give me a step by step guide how to do it please.

    Cheers

  7. Something similar happened to me and I found a loosen screw on top of the kickstart case under the middle exhaust pipe. I have fixed it screwing it in back.

    Hi,

When I got it all taken off it was missing the 10mm BB. Thankfully an easy fix

  8. Ah right thanks, mine doesn't just rattle around it actually flops out as if your going to kick it over.

Does the BB just float free inside the kick start then? ie, to give the kick start some resistance and stop the freedom of movement.

  9. Hi,

Have a Rev 3 2001, the kick start is loose and just flops around. Is there a spring missing? As I removed the kick start lever using the smaller bolt and there seemed to no mechanics to keep the lever in place when not in operation.

I'm new to beta coming from sherco, so any advice is appreciated.

  10. cheers for the info...

yep, i had intended to put cable ties on the rear mudguard instead of the bolts, but the fact that the where out of line just got me focused on tryna get the dam thing back where it should be....

the bolt your saying to loosen...are you talking about the nut you screw the bolt into at the top of the petrol tank ? i did way that one up but it seemed very tight, i wondered if it was tacked into the frame as it didnt seem to want to budge... ill give it a go in the morning.... ill let you know how i get on.... :icon_salut:

the petrol cap..... it doesnt seem to want to catch the thread at all.... ive examined it closely and theres no signs of cross threading or any deformitys ....its just so bloody tight and doesnt wanna catch the thread ? also, because i cant get it screwed on right im not sure if it should sit flat (you know, parralel with the floor) or slightly angled back with the angled fall of the tank.. ?

    friggin bike.... :wall:

Yeah mate the cap should fit level to the tank, my mate's old 03 used to do the same thing with the fuel leaking and the cap not fitting properly.

Turned out to be the rubber valve/seal inside the cap wasnt allowing the cap to seat properly on the threads on the tank and had slipped down a bit onto the treads on the cap.

Worth a look if nowt else mate.

  11. All trials bikes tend to get the exhaust bunged up with oil and carbon, going for a blast down a track or down the road if your taxed and insured, gets the exhaust hot enough to ignite the oily carbon residue hence the smoke, I personally find this the best and easiest way to clean the exhaust out.

You'll probably find that it will make the bike run better and make it sound a little less poppy unless you really over do it and burn all the packing out.

Unfortunately the only way to repack the exhaust is to cut it open, pull the old packing out, repack and weld it back together.

Does that apply to the older type exhaust too, 99-09?

  12. Was thinking about this very thing. Seems the shafts are standard soft steel(thus the wear) and the stainless alloy would work fine. The time vs money thing is the prob!

Still do not understand why his drain hole was not working?

When I got the casing off it was like splatshop says, just absolutely full of mud and crap. Luckily enough when i got the shaft out it hadn't scored, but there was play in the bearing so changed that too.

Fingers crossed that'll be it, and thanks for all the help guys.

  13. I've done this job a few times now .... Each time I've found the shaft was scored and needed replacing.

One time (in desperation) I tried to reposition the seal so it would not sit on the score. But it still leaked (straight away) so I wasted my time, still had to buy a new shaft and do it all again. :wall:

    Best of balance.

    Neo

    Thanks Neo,

    That's answered that one then.
