  1. I was on the History channel website and noticed they had a clip about trials motorcycles. It was very well done! http://www.history.com/videos/motorcycle-trials-through-insane-terrain#motorcycle-trials-through-insane-terrain
  2. Would there be any harm in riding a trials bike as if it was a dirt bike? I'm talking hanging out in 5th gear going 30mph and such on flat terrain. I know they are built for going over obstacles and uphill but would just cruising on them in the dirt do anything bad overtime?
  3. Thanks for the input, everyone. I finally got it to start today... on accident. I took the magneto cover off and everything looked fine. I took the gas tank off so I could see the clutch cover easier and I noticed that the kick start bolt on top of the cover was loose. I tightened this up and gave it a kick to see if there was a difference in compression (I'm probably not making sense because I'm a noob when it comes to motorcycles). Then it fired up and I was like, huh?!?!?! It died shortly after, thankfully. I crashed on my bike 4 times already from the engine running away. I'm calling it quits until I get a new inlet manifold and air boot so hopefully all of the air leaks will be diminished. Again, I appreciate all of your help. Without the internet, I would be as doomed as a chicken in a lion's den.
  4. You are correct, this is my problem. I got the cover to slide through the kick start shaft but the shifter shaft is still stuck on the cover. After much WD-40 and tapping, it is still not budging. Am I totally screwed? I don't know what to do at this point. Thank you all for your input. Monty, I'll definitely look into that... at this point I can't take the cover off though. Hopefully I don't have to use only silicone as a gasket. Thanks!
  5. I have a Beta TR-35 and it has many air leaks in the inlet manifold so the engine took off on me while I was riding it. I crashed and the bike was revving like crazy on the ground, most likely from the air leaks (it was acting like it was starving for fuel and it was colder that day which may explain why it never happened before). I finally killed the bike and ever since then it hasn't been able to start. The bike tried to fire up once or twice but now nothing. The engine still has good compression. I checked the plug and it was dry meaning that the engine is not flooded, right? If I'm not getting any spark, how do I get spark and how can I tell? The fuel is new and the air filter is clean. The spark plug is new also. Is my engine flooded and is this why it won't start? But the plug wasn't wet so it can't be flooded, right? Or maybe I have so many air leaks that it won't fire up? Is that possible? Any help would be much appreciated. I'm definitely going to replace the inlet manifold but am wondering if it could be something else. Thanks!
  6. Hey guys! I still can't figure this out. I have an old Beta. My clutch cover gasket kind of got messed up so it leaks oil like a sieve. I already have a new gasket but I can't seem to figure out how to take the clutch cover off. I take all of the bolts out as well as the big one that connects the frame and the clutch cover still won't budge. Am I missing something? Do I take the clutch arm off too? How about the dowels on the kick starter and shifter? Do they come out too? Please someone school me on this, I am lost. It seems like the cover is held up on the bottom right and yes, I'm sure all of the primary bolts are out. Also, here is a picture. What does the bolt (#3) do on top? Does that go off or no? Should I take off #1 too? Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Basically after I shut off the throttle, the bike increases its RPMs by itself to where it gets extremely high. It's almost as if it's running out of fuel and the engine runs away but plenty of fuel is in there and my oil/gas ratio is fine too. Sometimes when I'm in neutral and rev the bike, the throttle sticks but the RPMs do not increase after that which you mentioned. I just have to jerk the bike to get the RPMs back down. Other times when I'm in neutral, the RPMs take off on their own without me having any influence. I would just be sitting there on the bike doing nothing and all of the sudden the RPMs skyrocket. Could this be an air leak issue too? This problem never occurred in warmer weather (25 degrees C). This problem happened in colder weather (10 degrees C) so that means an air leak could be possible due to lack of thermal expansion on the rubber tubing by the carb? It seems pretty weather checked... Thanks for the assistance. I don't want to die at 18.
  8. Any other thoughts of what it may be?
  9. Randomly my RPMs go through the roof!!! It is full of gas and the fuel valve is open but sometimes it just takes off for no reason, what gives? I took the gas tank off and noticed that the throttle cable is exposed to where you can see its "skeleton". Is it just a sticky throttle cable? I'm starting to hate 2-strokes right now... plz help!
  10. Have any of you been in high rev situations while in gear as your bike is running out of gas? Any stories and/or crashes? When my bike runs out of gas, it revs like crazy for about 20 seconds (it's horrible for everything, now I know that it sucks up more gas than I thought it did). Is it possible that I have an air leak since the revs last this long? What has been your experience(s) regarding lean fuel conditions?
  11. When my Beta runs low on fuel, the RPMs go through the roof!!! This has happened to me while riding but thankfully I was in 3rd gear and it happened while I was turning on gravel so my bike slid on its side and I flew off (this happened today). What happens when you have high RPMs while riding and your kill switch doesn't work? Do I just pop it in first gear or neutral and just try to choke it to death? Wouldn't I totally screw up my bike if I stalled it by shifting into a higher gear from neutral with so many RPMs? I never knew about the glove-to-exhaust technique; it makes sense! Thanks for the advice. Hopefully next time my bike freaks out it will be without a rider!!! Currently I don't have a kill switch so my bike is just a deathtrap and I'm retiring it until I get it figured out.
  12. What? Really? They're kind of old. The new ones are killer! What makes you want one so bad?
  13. Does anyone have any idea on what gear oil I should use for a 1990 Beta? And how much oil? I'm dry right now. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the reply! When I push that button when the engine is running, nothing happens. I have to tinker around more...
  15. I'm in the same position you're in as I drained my old oil out and am wondering what new stuff I should put in. How much gear oil is necessary too?
