    Ty50 Bogging

Hi John, I had a similar problem with my sons Ty80. I bought it before Christmas and it was running fine but needed some cosmetics. I fitted many new parts inc clutch adjuster, cables, new air filter etc but couldn't get it to run properly. Starts first lick, idle spot on and ok in first with low revs but open the throttle and it died. Thought it must be fuel, new tap, cleaned and checked carb jets etc no difference. Finally got to the problem, the mid box of the exhaust was tight up against the back of the air box inlet. The exhaust mount bracket under the seat had partially snapped and someone had created a clamp with two large washers which had slipped. Might not be the case with yours but worth a look. Make sure there is a decent gap between the airbox and the exhaust. Rich
  2. I have read a thread about using an RD200 kick start on a TY175. I bought one and it does work although the kickstart boss is set at an angle reducing the kick stroke. The splines on the boss are shot so it needs replacing. The RD kickstart appears heavy duty. My question is, if I by a new TY boss will the RD kickstart lever fit on (i.e. the lug with the circlip at the top)? I know the RD level may need a bit of bending etc. I need a new assembly to work. The TY boss is around
  3. I did exactly the same and got a replacement from RD Motorcycles for
  4. Hi, can anyone tell me the tread size and pitch for the stud that comes out of the TY175 petrol tank? Mine is the Sammy Miller tank/seat unit, but I would think they are the same as the standard tank. I'm looking at it and guessing 16mm x1.5mm. The tap is beyond repair and someone has liquid welded the floating nut to the stud which is now cracked. I have carefully cut off the nut without damaging the stud threads and cleaned off the bad repair job. Only thing is the stud now moves partially in and out of the tank. I intend to put on a hex nut (to act as a lock nut) fibre-glassing it in place before putting on a new tap with floating nut. Many thanks, Rich
  5. Roy, Mine arrived and aligned up well, however as you said it is a different profile with the case being deeper than the TY case. Problem I have is also with the kick start shaft. Because the casing is deeper at the kick start there is a gap between the kickstart collar and the casing, I can fit the kickstart and retaining bolt however on first kick the internal moves and the return spring pops out of its housing. I suppose the problem could be resolved by inserting a spacer on the internal part of the shaft to take out any side ways movement.
  6. Hi Iain I have the same problem and have ordered one from Independent Cycles (hasn't arrived yet). Looks like the same one. Was yours the same as this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380322375332?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Chrs Rich
  7. Hello all, this is my first post so please be gentle. I know nothing about trials biking. I recently bought a TY80 for my son to use on my parents farm. It was in full working order but a bit tatty, so it's been stripped down cleaned, full respray, replacement stainless bolts, new cables etc. All was going well until I went to fit the new chain and found it is approximately 6 inches longer than the old one. I've checked the Haynes manual and it should be the right on for a standard bike, DID 420 106. The rear sprocket is standard 41 T however the front sprocket is 13 T (rather than standard 12T) but surely this can't account for such a difference in length. I don't see any other modifications. From memory I think the existing is 96 link. Any help appreciated. Should I shorten the new chain to fit or am I missing something? Many thanks, Rich
