While being scrutineered at the pre65 Kinlochleven a competitor with some trick Ariel made the comment "if Ariel had the knowledge we have they would have built their bikes like mine" , Alec Smith looked around the car park picked out a Monty 4RT and said "wrong that's what they would have built"
Trialing is a discipline,it always has been, always will be,there are no "idiotic rules" just rules, trialing cannot exist with out them that's the way it is, like it or lump it.Hit a card it's a five, the card is not in the wrong place,it's where the Clark of the course put it,it's your job to miss it.

The point about our 4 small rules is to keep costs down. One club member bought a TY250 last week for £500 ,he may need cables etc, so for £600 he is trialing - no need for carbon-fibre tanks, disc brakes, fancy rims, hand made frame or fancy forks. Just turn up and get some trialing done.Did these bikes work OK in the 70's and 80's ? It would appear so. In my first message there was no mention about tubeless tyres?? The main point is, do not let twin shock's get into the same mess as pre 65's. keep it simple . thanks.Tam

Thanks for the reply, the rules I put in the message were a shortened version, somebody coming along on a SWM with factory fitted 38mm forks would be more than welcome. We want to run trials with minimum rules, costs and cups and maximum fun.Just think, what if every body had the same type of tyres where would the advantage be ????

Edinburgh Saint George club are putting on a trials this year year for pre65 and twin shocks,we are going to put on three routs, a masters, a club mans and a gentleman's,The masters for true twin shocks and the pre65 rider who wants a chalenge .The club-mans route for proper pre65 bikes. The gentleman's for the concours type bike with the older rider or beginer on any bike but a mono. The problem is what is a proper Pre65 and what is a tricked out special . The pre65 bike has spiraled out of control on modification and costs and unless rules are put in place now what are twin shocks going to look like in 10 years time.We have set out 4 rules for the twin shocks 1.no hydraulic clutch or brakes. 2. no jumbo forks 3. bikes to run with tubes 4. no converted monos

The Edinburgh St.George Motor Club will run three trials on the following dates and venues. These trials will be for twin shock and pre65 bikes on two routes. We have been asked about eligibility rules on bike construction and modification.Taking pre65 first, this class has been allowed to spiral out of control, this has made it very difficult to set down a set of rules,we will need more time to look into this issue. To keep down the cost of twin-shocks bikes and to keep the class fair the following rules will apply
1. No hydraulics (clutch or brakes)
2. No jumbo forks,up to 35 mm only, unless factory fitted spec
3. All bikes to run with tubes
4. No converted monos
Trials dates; 1. 25th march at Stow 2. 27th May at Gala 3. 17th June at Gorebridge
Do not be put off with the above rules, the club has gave us the mandate to run the trials on a minimum of rules, costs and trophies, and maximum fun, come along and join the club (£5) and have a good day's sport, thanks.Tam Dodds

The Edinburgh St George Motor Club are in the process of fixing dates for 6 Sunday trials and some Saturday afternoon trials. These trials will be for twinshock and pre-65 bikes only competing on two routes and will be run in central Scotland. We currently have permission from four land owners and are hopeful on the others. We feel the classic scene in Scotland deserves trials dedicated to the older bike.Once dates are set we will let you know through the usual means,Get those old TY's, bulto's, fantics and good old British irons out of the shed and come along for a good day's fun, thanks.Tam Dodds
