  1. Hello folks, here are the directions as promised. From Carfraemill take the A697 for about five miles ,then turn right on to the B6089 to Kelso and Gordon.Follow the B6089 straight through Gordon, after three miles turn left signed Hume( just after the road to Mellerstain House) If coming from Kelso just follow the B6089 and turn right for Hume just before Mellerstain. From the road end flags will be laid out to the quarry. The trial is not in the quarry but on the farm. This is one of the best sites we have found,so get those B40's, C15's, old bultos, fantics , Ty's, Suzuki/bantams and trick Ariel's fired up for a good afternoons trialing for the massive fee of £6,thanks.Tam

  4. Hello folks I would like to thank, the land owners for allowing us the use of their ground, the Inverness club for their work before and after the trial.I would also like to thank the observers, back markers and SACU steward ,who get overlooked.I have attended most of the two day trials put on at Alvie and always look forward to the next year.I retired from the trial this year with leg problems. Looking back at my last post and the comments fellow members have posted since I still think Sundays trial was not pre65 friendly, but then look at Young John Moffat's score on a true pre 65 bike ,that has to be ride of the Year. On the mono argument,NO. Tam
  5. Hello folks, thanks for puting on the trial.Just looking at the results, what a lot of retired riders and massive scores, what I seen of Sunday I'm not surprised, not really pre65.Hope you get the entry for next year, thank.Tam

  7. Hello folks, thanks to both the Creenas and Mike for their efforts today and Mark for his time on Saturday. The rain yesterday played a big part in how the sections were laid out,I've never seen rocks as slippy. The numbers were down but there was three other trials on today, need to look at that in the future.Jock seems to be trialing his bantam like a star,Broonie will need to look at those hill climbs.Next trial is on a Saturday 28 july near Gordon,we will have a late start at this one, thanks.Tam

  10. Hello, thanks to all who gave a help on making this Gala trial such a success and thanks to all the riders for turning up and leaving nothing behind to be cleaned up.Thanks to Robert for his help today, hope his ribs are fine for next trial. Lap of the day, must be Lewis on 4 with a proper bike (15 sections).Clean of the day, Wullie Robertson section 14 and 15 (double) on 1 foot peg.Surprise of the day,Turps finishing with his zero maintenance plan, must have been the hammer he borrowed.Hope we get as big a turn out at Gorebridge on June 17.Looking forward to Alvie in two weeks, the ankle lasted Gala ok,thanks.Tam

  12. Hello folks,it's looking good for Sunday,Lewis and me went up last week and found some new stuff,it's looking good for 15 sections.Buckholm Farm is the same site used lately by Lmcc, it's located about 2 miles further on down the A7 than our Stow trial, pretty close to Gala.I will post any changes.Give me a message if anybody can come up with some observers.Steve, hope you are coming along,Just thought I would remind everybody thiis is a twin- shock and pre65 only trial, layed out with three routes, thanks .Tam
  13. Hello thedbf, phone billy on 07885515238 tell him tam dodds gave you his number
  14. Hello broony ,do you know anybody wanting a cheap ty250
  15. Hello folks, thanks for the comments on the trial keep them coming good and bad. We can't improve unless we know your concerns. Most of what was said at the trial was positive, but it's hard to lay out a 'crap trial' on such a glorious day.It was very encouraging to see so many classic bikes at our first trial. The result of the day was Turps FIRST in the twin-shock B route, then Donald Coultard finishing third (must put that down to the 5 stones he lost). Good to see the overall winner was Robert on a Pre65. With time to reflect we made this quite a hard trial. I think the combination of the size of the lap and the terrain, coupled with the loose scree type sections, resulted in a tiring but enjoyable days trialing, thanks.Tam
  16. Hello folks, thought I would remind you that the clocks spring forward this weekend, thanks Tom
  17. Hello folks, there seems to be some confusion about the trial location. The trial is at Bow Farm 3 miles south of Stow on the A7 to Galashiels. The postcode is TD1 2SW
  18. Hi turps, are you coming to Stow trial on the 25th? The trial starts at 11:00, it's at Bow farm on the A7 between Galashiels and Stow, hope to see you there, thanks.Tam
  19. Reply to ironmaster, as woody puts it, go to a trial on your classic bike and have a great days fun, at most trials nobody will care what your bike looks like, they will just be glad there is one more old bike out taking part. If you have tweaked your bike, most riders will be curious and interested to see if there is an improvement on the standard, but in general they wont care in the slightest what you have done to it.
  20. Hello folks,it's close to our first trial, march 25 at Stow, can you observe or do you know of anybody who can,get in touch please, thanks.Tam
  21. Hello folks, it is getting close to our first trial,it would be nice to have observers, are you able to observe or know of any body who could, please let us know, thanks.Tam
  22. Club and centers have their own construction rules. E&D club does not dictate your clubs trials construction rules. I come south to trial, no scrutineering of any kind takes place. Do not blame E&D for the lack of construction rules with in the sport. Pre65 trials have evolved since it started, both in bike and section, in Kinlochleven the sections are probably more akin to" a fantic 240pro" trial, I can't see this being reversed, people from all over come to watch and take part in this great event. Who is to blame for the trick bike, these bikes are built, bought and sold by you the rider, it would seem that when there is a more trick bike out there than yours, it's time to cry woof
  23. . How is it the E&D clubs fault, do these bikes you mention only do the one trial. E&D do not set the rules for all pre65 trials. E&D over the last four years have put in new construction rules each year. E&D could easily lay down the law for next year, but most riders would have to build a new bike to enter the trial. It is very cheap to blame one club for all the mess.
  24. Hi Woody. Your comments hit the spot on most points, I too over the years have modified my bikes. There is not much wrong with the concept and most improvements are worth doing. A good well prepared pre65 is on par with a twin shock, at most trials they will not be at a disadvantage. As far as I can gather the modification rules were up to each club or centre . I Think we are singing from the same hymn book on this. My main point is that classic bikes differ from monos, they are almost different sports. Mix match the parts of classic bikes and there is not an enormous advantage to be gained. When you start to add mono parts (IE brakes and hydraulics) you enter into a completely different discipline, the advantage is significant. You are then having to put on two completely different types of sections at the same trial, it dose not work, we up here have tried it and failed. The sports governing bodies could with a few small rules sort this problem out. The rules could cover all classic trials ,this would let the sport thrive, and let us get on with laying out trials for the bikes we all love, and see them being used most weekends. On a lighter note, look at the original photos that started this debate of, one bike is a twin shock the other a pre65, the Sprite looks like a modified Mk2 frame kit made from 67 on wards.
  25. I cant understand how you can think a bike with billet alloy slab yokes looks like a pre65 bike. It's funny how every body always seems to have far better things lying around in their work shop. When putting together a C 15 they don't find a pair of 1952 Triumph Terrier forks, they just happen to find a Fantic front end lying in a bin and it fits no bother. Wullie Robertson from our club has just built one of the best Greeves 250's I have ever rode,he set himself the task of using as many genuine parts as he could (iron barrel, gears, piston, all engine parts, frame, tank, wheel rims and hubs),his forks and yolks are MP's. This bike looks pre 65,it's performance is truly astounding. Yes it does have modern foot pegs, shocks and ignition. It is heavy but performs to such a high standard that Wullie came first in a local trial finishing above the monos. Most of what you say is in the right direction, but my point is get the rules in place for twin shocks now and we wont be sitting here going over the same stuff in 10 years time. There seems no point in deciding to ride in classic trials and inventing a new bike to ride in them. How is the 'clark of the course' going to lay out a trial for twin shocks when you turn up on something with disc brakes, hydraulic clutch and 14 inches off travel. Just pull out the old bultos, TY's,monty's and fantic's, prep them properly and ride them the way they were made, thanks.Tam
