    The best way to seal the rim is to clean the rubber band and the rim thoroughly and fit the band to the rim using plenty of tyre soap, seal the valve with silicone. Job done.

    Forget the silicone, clean the rim and band thoroughly, use plenty of tyre soap on both the rim and band and the band just pops in! Use silicone to seal the valve though. It's a doddle.
