  1. Right, new rim tape, innertube and tyre on. compressor worked great - most glad i got one! New fuel in the tank at 50:1 and it fired up pretty quick and although im pretty sure the plug is wrong, it seemed fine and when i pressed the cut out for a couple of seconds, the bike almost died as it should and when i let go of the cut out it almost continued to run! maybe its an old cut out or maybe they do take a couple of seconds? I didnt knock the choke off for the few minutes i let it tick over but worked out the old fuel of which was a little left over in the tank, carb and engine wont of helped as it was quite old before putting it in the bike stupidly in a hurry and adding the fact i mentioned last time that i leant the bike right over to flood the carb to get it to fire a little easier meant lots of deadish fuel was sat in the carb all week. Today when i put new fuel in and turned the throttle with engine off, fresh fuel peed out of the breather! at least it was fresh! fuel turned off totally and fired the bike - it ran for about three minutes with fuel off totally and then i killed it with switch. maybe ill have to post a vid to get a better opinion but not at this time of night! its raspy as hell but sounds nice although im not sure how fast it should tick over and the smoke was still a little blue but got better as the newer fuel burnt (i think or is heat a factor?).
  2. cheers for the advice again grib. maybe your right regarding gasket and i probably did use the term manifold when i got the part but explained myself over the phone after realising my error. i suppose he will deal with lots of newbies and therefor just said fetch it in. jolly nice chap though! im on the hunt for a trials friend locally as bill can supply my stuff in future and advise but i want to learn more than anything

  4. thanks for this. i cant find anything online when it type in fantic 363 etc and other searches however i do know of the trials site (forgot name) that shows pics of all bikes. Unless someone has changed the frame/plastics/engine/other bits as bill said. its definately a 2 bolt manifold and has radiator with hose into engine. i do have some pics on photobucket - ill post link now. the engine is stamped 363 212cc but the parts bill sent me off with did not fit like manifold gasket and air filter which he was adament was for a 212cc k-roo as i doubled checked with him when i discovered the didnt fit. cheers cheers for your help
  5. She's alive!!!!! im over the moon! sorry guys i didnt get the pics up as mentioned above so that you guys can kindly assist me where possible. Anyway, having spent the morning driving around and getting mixed info regarding spark plugs (having checked ngk site first of course) i have a few new plugs to try but even the ngk equivelents are all too long - including the 'correct ngk. They are just to tall to get in under the plastic cowl that covers the underside of the radiator so stuck the almost new ngk short plug back in that came with the bike. long day and long story short, i tipped the bike right over until left foot peg touched the floor and gave it a good few twists on the throttle until fuel started to escape out of the breathers and it fired in three kicks but i didnt dare take the choke off! so, having got this far and getting engine warmed up, how do i set up the idle screw please? is there some sort of norm? next questions: my back tyre is deflated. with a compressor, will it inflate if the tyre tape is in pretty bad shape? not too bad but could be better. How do i adjust the rear hydro monoshock please? mine is way too soft and almost bottoms out when i stand on the pegs!
  6. Cheers for the info guys. I'm arranging to see bill next week hopefully. The engine plate above kick start says FM 363 212cc? I'll get a pic. It does have rad under tank and is connected up to engine via hose etc. it does have the two bolt diamond shape manifold head on it too. Pics will be up in next ten! Cheers guys. Most appreciated. I also changed the plug yesterday for an ngk equiv. of champ but I reckon it could be wrong for two reasons: Plug too tall to fit and v awkward to seat ht cap on without ragging plastic cowl about under radiator It still doesn't fire and fired a few times with totally wrong plug!
  7. Hi all, right I'm back to square one - I'll try to keep it brief - ish.... Bill pye was confused as to what bike I have although he has not seen it yet. He gave me gaskets etc to fit a 212cc k-roo 1991 but they do not fit. For example, manifold gasket he gave was square, mine is round 2 bolt. The list goes on. The bike definately looks like a 1991 k-roo but we thought it could of been a 250 after what bill said. Being a newbie, I have just come across the engine badge: FM 363 212cc which is a big big breakthrough for me. I'm a newb, it was coated in mud and grease and got missed....oops sorry! I have fitted a PHBH 26 CS carb as some monkey had fitted a 28 BS and wondered why it didn't run. I have fitted a 70 choke, 125 main jet etc and all is cleaned perfectly and operational on the carb from what I can see. I have come a long way in first few weeks of owning a bike as I'm totally new or I think so anyway. I'm going to get the bike to bill as I think this bike has had a different engine in its frame maybe. Airbox seems stock as its fits frame perfect but bills 212 air filter does not fit correctly. More on this later. I am now trying to get the bike to run. Here is where I would like help and forget my other issues for the minute. I want to get it ticking over before I get to see bill in near future. Carb came of a scooter or other bike. It has had jets changed etc to suit as above. New air filter wedged in place in box but not oiled yet, fuel added with oil at about 70:1 (don't ask - was for something else), newish very clean plug and checked spark ok. Bike did fire but I fouled screws on carb and set to 2/14 turns on air and couple of turns out on idle screw but now bike will not fire. Any help most appreciated as its becoming a chore now and bugging me. I know the bike fired on first few kicks with this carb with me forgetting to adjust screws in first place when i got carb and now i have no idea where they should be to get it to tick over. I have started at 2 1/4 turns as said and two turns on tick over. I'm lost and fed up. Please help people
  8. http://s329.photobucket.com/albums/l373/martin82scott/fantic%20k-roo/ here is the bike guys. sorry for delay. be most appreciated if anyone can comment. i believe its got to be a 91 or 92 with 91 plastics looking at it although bill pye said it cant be watercooled with a 2 bolt manifold gasket
  9. Now im baffled and give in! i didnt want to upset and start another thread but im confused. I have the exact same looking bike as what goudrons posted in his kind pics above but having spoken with bill pye at frankfield fantic, we have come to the conclusion (without him seeing it) that mine is not a 1991 kroo 212cc!! so what is it? i will try and get some pics up but its identical in colour and engine looks as to the one above but bill sent me some parts and they do not fit having confirmed again he says they are for a 1991 kroo 212cc After a discusion and brief newbie description from myself with bill, he tells me that mine isnt a 212cc as mine has a non liquid cooled engine as soon as i mentioned my manifold is a one peice mani and centre and a diamond shape 2 bolt mani gasket. Twin this with the air filter not fitting that he gave me, we are baffled until we meet with the bike which is a bit of trek for me and id like to find out more before i have to do the drive again with all my bike and belongings in tow. Please can anyone shed some light. I think it might be a 250 2 stroke looking at goudrons pic. he he could shed some light then that would be a massive help! thanks in advance goudrons! my bike has: usd forks, hydro clutch, twin disc brakes, mono shock, blue engine (i think as repainted), yellow hubs. doubt this sheds much light but please shout up if i can add anymore detail for you. bill said dont put your eggs in one basket - it might be an engine transplant from another size machine yet! i have issues with the bike but im not sure whether to start another thread or not unless people would like to answer my carb questions etc here. cheers all! i await you to put me out of my misery!
  10. Ok so I have got a little further but bad weather meant calling it a day. I have done a few more bits and managed to get the bike to start after removing and cleaning what is also a new carb but the bike had been stood. I cleaned the needle which looked like the only dirty part. Rest was pristine and throttle now flicks back nicely but the bike will not idle smoothly and requires choke to tick over. I'm told something about the third small jet? How do I clean this please? It's on bottom of carb but don't want to damage it as its a brand new dellorto replacement. I also see a very small breather on side of carb which looks like it should have a pipe on it of very small diameter but it doesn't? Lastly, I have done 2 1/4 turns on lower smallest spring loaded screw. Any idea what the larger acre is in middle of carb on same side and what is position should be please? I assume one is fuel and one is air and is this why it doesn't run as that screw is fully in? If not it must be that jet doodaa! Sorry I'm a newbie! Big thanks people!
  11. Hi all, newbie here and newbie to trials i have bought a fantic k-roo 1991 and managed to buy a couple of rolling chassis too for parts. not done too bad so far - the running bike i bagged at
  12. Thanks for all the help Goudrons the other week! i have had a little drive out and met bill on person. He did me a great deal on two rolling chassis and got a few other new bits. Bit of shame as one or two things are wrong and maybe it was a hicup on one of our behalfs. Bill mentioned the exhausts were changed in 92 to 3 part systems although i believe mine is a 91 and has the manifold and centre in one peice. I got my exhaust rubber bung for the backbox joint but the manifold gasket he gave me has a square cut out and a four bolt mounting. Mine is two bolt with a round hole in adiamond shape gasket maybe ill make one rather than source an original. Any ideas on which type of gasket material is prefered? Bills was 'paper' type and v thin! A few more questions if you wouldnt mind please anyone.... What parts and order should my rear wheel axle have please as all the 3 bikes i now have seem to have different spindles and parts. the axle i intended on using with original yellow hub (looking from rear of bike) has the ball/disk with hole in it for inserting a locking tool (?), then the wheel spacer/guider with markings on, tapered collar and then hub. axle pokes out of hub on brake caliper side and has a spacer, then caliper frame, one washer, rear arm and another marked guider/spacer thingy mabob!, washer and nut - is this correct and is any washers missing please? my brake caliper seems a little on the angle and isnt free wheeling brilliantly. im also unsure as to how much tension should be on the chain/markings on wheel guiders as i just attempted to seat it as far back as possible but i dont want to cause future issues. i have not manage to ride it yet as its not finished. any tips on bleeding brakes - rear is the one requiring doing. I got another full caliper off another bike as mine was too much hassle to refurb at the minute and can wait. Also, there is a 'nipple' guider on the caliper housing which i assume slides into the slot in the rear arm and can slide to suit wheel position? makes sense but none of my bikes had the nipple in the slot in the inside of the arm. it was always sat above and tight against the top of the arm? i assume i need a frame to house the air filter as after closer inspection at home, i realised mine has holes in it (new from bill) and nothing to hold it in its guider. I assume the wheel should sit exact central over the U shape of the rear arm? mine looks offset hence rough free wheel? i came accross a site that does reproduction plastics although i might refurb mine and was thinking of kevlar cloth on one set? hope it wont look chavy! sorry for all the newbie questions here guys. i just want to get into this myself and enjoy working on things as im sure any garage will want to strip it to bits and start again or close the door in my face! not bill though!
  13. Wow! That's a wicked amount of info mate - very much appreciated!!! Yes my worry is I'm nearly 16 stone 30yr old so not so agile anymore haha! I did think oh pants when I saw how slim you were on that bike! That info on the clutch and carb is brill and I'll check all that. Correct - the bike has been stood for maybe a year and has a full brand new carb fitted by a mechanic but I'm unsure when so it could be grimed up as you say. I'll try and do some photos of my findings. Think I've seen the beta post somewhere RE clutch cleaning and polishing etc so I'll do a search on that and come back to you. Another job is to find someone to do a mould for me off the seat mudguard and possibly make on out of a better abs plastic or something so I can store the original which is in great condition currently for its age and source some tank fairings thingy mabobs as mine are absent Speak soon. Massive thanks again!
  14. Thanks for all your help goudrons!! Most appreciated and the exploded diagram should really help out too if I get stuck. I only bought the bike yesterday and have not had chance to have a go as yet as I need to find somewhere in Leeds where I can have a quick go without been pestered. I'm aware of swaine and bumpys etc but never been and I know my bike isn't in riding condition as yet do to speak as I have the choke issue and clutch drag. I just need a field I think to get a feel for the bike to investigate its faults. I think sorting the clutch drag will be the biggest job for me. Will it be pretty much the same as all other trials for sorting this issue? Maybe that's a daft question! I'll have to see if anything looks visibly worn as I'm not too clued up but I have a pal who knows a bit. I'd read something about (well mostly newer bikes) having a dragging clutch being to do with residue on the clutch plates from manufacture or that this doesn't help and people strip them and clean them up to solve it, giving a very responsive clutch? I'm new to all this so please bare with me! Love the pics - same colours as mine. Is that you on the bike? Kind regards, martin
  15. Its a 212cc 1991 im told if this helps (probably will lol!)
  16. Hi all, im new here and new to trials! i did join here a while ago but never bought a bike until now. Anyway, i have just got a very good condition for age fantic k-roo 212cc and ill try and get some pics up. Please can anyone give me any pointers as to what to check, look out for, advice topics elsewhere and more importantly a service manual. I have a wiring diagram and thats it. I dont think i have bought a duffer anyway. It came from a mechanic and the bike is not tampered with and the guy bought it because it was untouched but doesnt use it. From what i know it needs: attention to mono shock spring rear disc sticky clutch slightly drags when cold exhaust slight leak at back box joint but no signs of a clamp? the bike has brand new carb but choke has to be out for it to run i dont need to be told how to suck eggs or have anyone do all the legwork for me. Im just introducing myself and would pay for an email copy of a manual if needs be! i hope to have a happy time here and maybe ill try and ride the bike tomorrow - first time in 20 yrs and i didnt know how to ride then at 10 yrs old! .......scary thought! kind regards and thank you in advance for your help!
  17. just as i thought. thanks for this. so whats a reasonable price? guy wont go lower than the 160 he says but that has gone down 30% since last night so it makes me wonder. how does this look cash wise barring it needs a lot of restoration? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-TY175-/290693043205?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item43aea7d405#ht_726wt_922 Its a shame nearly all these have been destroyed by neglect or been bodged together! piece of history round my birthdate! If i payed lets say little over a 100 for the bike pictured above originally and spent a 300 ish give or take on it and a lot of time, would i get my money back? some are doing best part of a grand but are mint restores or kept well im wondering do i go new or old now. I really like the thought of a piece of history to learn on and restore before i really get into it later. i dont intend on doing hard rides but just pottering about to start so is a twin shock ideal for this?
  18. Thanks for the info. Most appreciated. I believe he has some of these things if not all but thanks for the list. At least I have something to go off now as I might of Forgotton some of the bits. I need to check how old photos are as I even have one which looks just as recent as others but bare rolling frame as it has been most put back together for a sale. Supposed to be going for it in an hour so any more tips will be most appreciated. There is one on eBay starting at 300 for a 175 project which looks a bit rough round the edges but at least it was complete and running. Unsure as to whether it will pull much more and whether or not either is a bargain. Worst case, the one in the photo here and is as is or with few more bits on it now is going to cost me 160! Thoughts? Can't see tyres etc well enough in pics to decide. I don't want to have to buy both bikes but may end up so!
  19. just needs few bits 1987 model i think stator plate, woodruff key, brake n clutch levers, kick start and throttle twist needed
  20. on ipad and cant seem to get pics up or is it due to me being new here?
  21. Hi all, not been on a bike for 15 years ish and very new to trials. I was looking at a more modern bike like 2005 or newer but i have just come accross a bargain restoration project locally and the guy just wants shut. Im in need of help please as i know very lkittle about bikes and a list of what to look for initially would be massively appreciated or if you could point me in the right direction to a thread or something. the bike needs a few bits which im aware of and ill list these with a few picks. Im up for a nice total rebuild over the summer and i can grab this for less than 200 notes as is! the guy is moving on and it has to go so rather than him spendf more time and not doing a proper job, im thinking of taking it on. It will be a long time before i consider doing the real tricks and jumps on one and it probably wont be on this machine either as ill probably flog it for a pretty penny later once done with it and restored. ill get the pics up and i just think its a real steal at this price even if it needs a new engine! advice on the usual checks would be most appreciated
