  1. Just suggested to my Bro that his 11 year old lad might like to take up trials in order to give him a direction other than to end up with the detrius of society strutting about demanding "respec" off everyone. I'm sure he'll be well up for it and I'm nore than happy to take him out and teach him what little I know, but here's the rub (the usual one), as far as I know, there's nowhere to ride in the Southend and Essex area. I have my usual club in Berko but that's a bit of a stretch from Southend. Maybe Poles Wood could be a goer but it's a bit dull by all accounts.

Has anyone ever successfully (or almost successfully) convinced a council to rent some land for trials or is it just a case of all motorcycles are evil m'kay and must be discouraged? The way I see it is that if you offer a yoof something he can be good at that requires some discipline and commitment, he MIGHT just decide that it's worth hanging on to and not just peeing up a wall.

    Dunno, any thoughts?

  2. yeah i think this way of trials is how it could go, or maybe be another type of trials, like motocross has free style. i think its good for the sport.what does anyone esle think??????????????????????????????????????????

Well maybe not EXACTLY like that but trials has a tremendous potential to be a huge spectator sport and massivley popular. It needs to be open to new things to avoid it dying on it's ar$se like speedway.

  3. So it's not just me then? That's a relief. Blasted thing nearly launched me into the Grand Union Canal after throwing me into some nettles

My bad really, fluffed a turn, pulled the clutch in without getting off the gas, feathered the clutch and WHAM! I was on my butt, in the nettles with the canal trickling along 12" away from my front wheel :D

Oh, can I use regular gear oil with the Mitani conversion or only that stupidly expensive ELF oil.

  4. Ok let me get this straight,  it sounds to me like you cant just get on and ride your trials bike on your own land  without planning permission???

is this just in England?  what a ridiculous scenario...

Is this the same in scotland?

    s.m.

Mate, given the amount of public servants in Scotland, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an entire department dedicated to stopping people riding trials bikes on their own land.

I all likelihood, I'd imagine that if you bordered off an area with thick bushes and fast growing trees and mae sure the entrance wasn't obvious, then no one will be able to see you anyway, and what's to say that 2 stroke noise isn't a chainsaw? Yes, it's ridiculous, especially seeing as other countries don't seem to have Anti Fun and Anti Bloke laws.

  5. You could get away with it,

if you allow people on your land but dont tell them there allowed on it...as in go there but say 'aint saying you can'... so there kinda illegally there but you wont prosecute them.

.. ok.. doubt that makes sense and i dont know if thats fool proof but i know of a farmer that kinda does that..but i dont think he rides

Makes perfect sense. To be honest, if by some chance I do find a bit of woodland that's interesting enough, it'll only be me and a few trusted friends who will play. I like woods to walk around and chill out in as well.

  6. I've been toying with the idea of buying some land as an invesment, now seeing as I have a new hobby, I was wondering if anyone knew what hoops I'd have to jump through to be able to bung a few obstacles in there and start riding over them.

It's obviously possible otherwise there wouldn't be trials parks.
