  1. I have read that one of the things that they did to help keep the factory bikes in top tune was to keep the silencer properly packed.I don,t see any way to do this unless it was cut open.Is that what they did? I haven,t had mine off the bike yet,but I,m guessing they are talking about the end silencer/exhaust piece and I,m just curious how to repack it if thats possible or even necessary?
  2. Hi Doug, The trials in Tilton is part of our NITRO series also. It,s about 3.5 hours for me.If it,s a free weekend work and family wise I,m going to try and make it.
  3. Thanks to everyone for the replies and help in understanding it.I guess it really doesn,t matter because I believe they looked the same and should be pretty close,if not the same as far as parts go.I am just happy to have finally found one!
  4. Hi Bondy, how can you tell that one is an 83 and the other an 81? I have seen a few listings that say my 199A is a 79 and more that say it,s an 80.I guess it doesn,t really matter, but I am curious what year mine is. I was also looking at bikes in the garage section and saw one of yours. It looked great, nice job!
  5. I have a 1970 ossa plonker/pennine.Does anyone have an idea of how many were sent to the united states ? I,m just curious if it was a rarity here.
  6. Thanks for the info Doug,I will mapquest it to see how far it is.I,d like to see a Fantic 240 in person.I think those are one of,if not the best looking twin shocks out there. That must be a rarity here in the midwest. I only made two trials last year with NITRO Trials here in district 17.I hope to make it to most of them this year.We have a vintage class, but it is usually pretty small.I,m trying to get more of my vintage mx buddies to show up and give it a try. Cheers,Scott
  7. I thought about the warranty thing also, but I thought the numbers would be farther apart.I,m in the USA so maybe that has something to do with it? My numbers are in the 11,000 range ending with A. Is there any way to tell if it,s a 1979 or 1980?
  8. Hi Doug, I,m in North central IL near Dekalb.
  9. Thanks Woody. After I posted this topic I found an interview with Ignacio Bulto somewhere on the web.As I,ve read before, 1979-80 didn,t sound very good at the factory so I,m guessing that it came that way.

    199A Numbers

Just curious about the frame and engine numbers on my 199a.They are the same except the last two numbers. The last to on the frame are 35 while on the motor they are 40.I just wonder if being so close could it have come from the factory that way?
  11. I just came in from a little more work on the fitting of the air box.It mounts up pretty good with the exception of the bottom fender bracket that will have to be bent up.The only real problem I see so far, other than possibly what pschauber was explaining,is that it wont be real water proof. That may not be too big of a problem as the trials around here don,t really have many, if any water sections and I have two other bikes I could ride if it was a rain day. I also have to admit that it bugs me a little that it,s some what cobbled and not a stock set up.Thanks again to all for the replies. P.S. I don,t know if it,s ok to mention the publications name, but I picked up a magazine yesterday with a spread on Vesty and Saunders Buls.Pretty neat article!
  12. Thank you both for the input.I guess for now it,s my only option so we will see how it works.
  13. Hi all, I just joined the site for the wealth of information and just the general fun of reading about all the happenings in the trials world. My main interest are in the vintage end of trials mx and enduro. I have a TY250,1970 Ossa trials,1974 pursang and a newly aquired 199a Sherpa t. I had a model 92 sherpa t that I should,ve kept, but I have wanted a late model sherpa ever since my friend bought a new 198b back in the day. Cheers, Scott

    199A Airbox

Hi all, I,m new to the site and this is my first post.I just picked up a 199A.The air box isn,t stock or really any good.I have re-engineered an old style model 92 ai box to fit. It,s pretty small compared to a stock one and I,m wondering if it will affect performance or jetting? I will probably by a new one when I can afford it as all my mad money went into getting the bike. Thanks in advance and man, what a great site!
