  1. Hey,it worked! I have one more to add of the top clamp. Thanks for the help sherpa325.As you can see in the pic the left side split spacer in the fork is already sticking in past flush a few mm.Measuring between the tubes the wheel is about 1/4 inch (6mm) off center.
  2. I will have to see if I can figure out how to post some pictures.I don,t have an external site that I keep them on,only a file on my computer. I just went back out to check and I do have the forks fitted the correct way with the spindle going in from the left with the backing plate right up against the right fork leg. There is a staight spacer on the left side that seems to keep everything right.I can get the wheel in ok and it tightens up and spins freely. The other thing that is suspect is the triple clamps as they are not for this year sherpa and the same with the forks, well at least the tubes. The bottom clamp is a gull wing style like it should be,but the top clamps are the old tapered style. There are no pinch bolts in the top clamps and the top of the fork tubes are tapered and as you probably know, get tight when you tighten up the fork caps pulling them into the top clamp. The bottom sliders are not black other than under the dust covers.Who knows, they could be older sliders that were painted black and re-stripped or originals to the bike that were stripped. The more I work on it the more it seems like a bitsa.I wish I had the forks from my brothers bike here to compare. Thanks to both of you for the replies.
  3. I tried to put my front wheel on only to find that it,s not centered between the forks. It is over to the left side (non-brake side). I bought the bike this winter and didn,t pay close enough attention to the front wheel when I took it apart. My first thoughts were that maybe it had been re-spoked at one time with incorrect offset or that it had the wrong backing plate which was keeping it over too far.I have my brothers 199a here that is still apart for painting so I tried his front wheel.Same problem, over too far to the left! I can,t believe that both wheels could have the same issues. What the heck else could be wrong? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  4. The article was in the latest issue of Classic Dirtbike magazine that I picked up yesterday.I didn,t have time to read it thoroughly, but I don,t recall any mention of knowing more about cams so I think a couple of the post here might be on the wrong forum. Vestys X-Lite Bulto has a 175 bottom end and is a 272 engine capacity. It tips the scales at 81.06kg and he is working on shaving more weight.
  5. Just wondering if anyone read the article on Vestys Bultaco x-lite project and what they thought? I think it,s a pretty trick looking bike and pretty cool that he is building what could have been.
  6. I have always liked the looks of them.It seems that when I look at pics on the web of twinshock events in the UK and Spain there never seems to be many Montesas.I thought that I had a deal worked out to trade for a red one,but it fell through.I think if I would have offered up the 199a he would have traded, but I haven,t even had it to a trial yet and it,s the one I,ve always wanted so it,s not going anywhere. Thanks for the replies.
  7. How does a 1980 Montesa 349 compare with the big bore Sherpa T from 1980? Having never been on a Montesa I,m curious if they,re both good, just different and if one is easier to ride for a not so good rider(me). They did a comparison in CDB,but it didn,t seem fair to compare the Montesa with a Puma Sherpa T.
  8. That second picture makes me sick.It would be nice to catch them and give them the beating that they need and deserve, but in todays society you would then be in more trouble than them. I hope all goes well with the insurance company and the rebuild.
  9. That is a pretty good site.Looks like he was on the blue and white prototype in 68.I met him quite a while ago at an AHRMA national, but didn,t get there for his school.Maybe he will make it over here this year. Thank you for the reply
  10. Just trying to learn a little history on my bike(1970 Ossa Plonker).Did Mick ride the stock bike or close to it in his first few six days (1967,68,69) with Ossa? It was pretty cool to see pics of Dave Thorpe on one in CTM and to read that he did pretty good on it.
  11. I just came across this thread while looking for info on my TY.I know it,s a bit old,but I just had to comment on what a superb job you did David!! I also appreciate all of the pictures and information. Cheers,Scott
  12. Thank you OTF,I found the website.
  13. OK,thanks OTF, if you can remember it that would be great. If you,re like me though,it might be a bit hard to recall.I,m going to be 50 this year and it seems that in the past couple of years my memory and vision have been slipping. I know what you mean trialsrfun.I seem to always find a way for things to go wrong. That is why I always like to ride my own bike.
  14. OTF, where did you get that tube? I just put a new slow Domino on my TY and it,s a bit too slow.Sounds like the one you have would work better.

    Tick Over?

Just curious about a term that is used by my trials brothers across the pond. What is a "tick over"? I,m guessing maybe a compression relief.Sorry if it,s a daft question and thanks in advance for an answer.
  16. Hi annmarie, Just wondering if there will be a vintage class? My guess is that it may be determined by how many twin shockers show up.
  17. Thanks majdaz,I had the TY out yesterday for my first ride of the year.I love that bike! It has to be one of if not the most reliable scoots that I,ve ever had.It always runs good, the brakes are always good and the clutch is bullet proof. I think that I would probably get the new fibreglass tank.Do they seem to hold up well and will the ethonal eat them up as much as old fibreglass? I guess the aluminum one would cure that problem, but they are a lot more $ and they dent.
  18. Thanks for the information. It is a 250A and I would like to make it look like a majesty after this season. Cheers, Scot
  19. Welcome! You will not find a better place for help and information with the TL.Click on Honda in the forum list of brands and then puch in TL 250 and you will probably find a number of topics on it.If you don,t find what you,re looking for just ask. Cheers, Scot.
  20. I,m pretty sure that I have read that a Majesty tank will not fit on a stock TY.Why is that the case? Is there any way to make it fit or does it take extensive frame mods to do so?
  21. Very nice! Are you in the US? If so I would think that is a rare find.Sounds pretty good also. Enjoy and have fun!
  22. I check out the MAVT site now and then just to see whats going on and to look at what is forsale. It seems that you guys have a really good series out there for vintage trials.I wish I lived a little closer! Thanks for the info on what you have done to the little TL.If I find one I was thinking the same way for mods with maybe a TY 250 front end.Is a big bore kit hard to find for those?
  23. I have only used two types, kreem and caswel.I think the caswel is definitely better, but not perfect.I,ve been told by a fellow SMOG member that none will last unless you run race gas or AV gas.He had an Ossa Pioneer that he sealed with caswel over ten years ago with no issues, but he only runs AV gas.
  24. Thanks for the quick replies. It,s a relief to know that I can ride it some. Woody, I thought 250.00 was pretty darn steep also. After all I,ve read on here and other post I believe Bultaco UK is the place to shop.I wasn,t aware of Mr. Renhams history with Bultaco until recently reading an interview with him. Thanks again guys. Cheers, Scot
