    Ow-10

Man is that ow10 a great looking bike.I wish they would have put that into production! I will have to seach around to see if I can find any pics of it without the tank and body work to get a look at the frame and shock. Yes,build progress and pics would be much appreciated.

    199A

Thanks for the kind words and advice.A side pull throttle and chain guard are on the list of things to get.I can,t take credit for how it looks,my buddy that sold it to me did the work.I can,t thank him enough for offering it to me first when he decided to sell it.I did the airbox, wheel bearings, swingarm bushings, front sprocket and countershaft seal and steering head bearings. The airbox is from a M92 Sherpa that I modified.I had to shorten the fender some, but I did add a piece of rubber that extends down from where I cut it.

    199A

I finally had the 199a out for a ride around the "backyard" section so I thought I would post a few pics.I noticed a few things on it,s first ride.It likes to kick back when trying to start and when trying to skim the front wheel over a log it wanted to deflect off course more than my TY.I think that it could use some new springs because it sags quite a bit on it,s own weight or maybe a better pilot!
  5. That looks like a good time Chuck and a good way to get the club some extra cash. When we use to have a decent VMX club here in the midwest they did a granny panty race a few times to raise money. It was fun and comical.I wish we had enough vintage trials riders in my neck of the woods to start an ITSA club.
  6. Is the drain plug for the primary oil the bottom center bolt in the side case? My 77 Pursang was that way,but it had a larger flat head on the bolt. This is just a regular allen head. I also need to drain the gear box oil,but after reading previous post on the subject I,m a bit nervous that it will be buggered up.
  7. I went to the bottom of the page on the left and clicked on "parts",then on the next page click on "handle bars, levers and grips" and scroll down and you will see some bar risers.
  8. www.x-tremevintageyz.com here in the USA has some that look like they would /should work.
  9. Thanks to all for the help. That is a nice looking bike noel063,thank you for the pic.I think I will try to make my own first and if it doesn,t turn out or looks too awful then I will look into buying one. They seem very hard to find here, but I have thought that it would be nice to put a TY mono front end and wheel on it.
  10. I would do the "seach all craigslist" seach to start with.If possible go to the AMA vintage days and hit the swapmeet.I haven,t ever been there yet,but all of my friends that go say that you can find about anything there. They don,t seem to come up all that often, but I,m always looking so if I see one I will let you know on here. You already have two of my favorite bikes, the TL and Wombat.I have a Wombat project with everything to make it into a CW,but can,t ever seem to find the time and extra cash to start on it.Good luck in your search. Cheers, Scott
  11. That looks pretty good as did some of the other stuff they had.I just have to figure out how to translate the website. It use to come up"translate this page" when I would do a google search, but for some reason it,s not doing it now. Thanks for the info.
  12. So,not a simple buy and bolt on piece.I can see that now after what you pointed out and looking at the pic again. It looks like the stock fork brace bracket on the back side of the fork has been removed also.Is that seal set up in the stock forks or has there been modern internals slipped inside the stock lowers? I was hoping for a simple bolt on item.I think that it,s a much cleaner look than the stock fender braces. Thanks Paul, Cheers, Scott
  13. Is there anywhere to purchase a front fender brace like this for my 199a ?
  14. That pretty much answered everything. Thank you!! Scott
  15. Does a 77-78 Alpina frame have the same geometry as a 78-79 Sherpa T ? Looking at pictures of a few frames on ebay the Alpina looks pretty much the same, but I wondered if the steering head angle was different compared to a Sherpa.
  16. Thanks for all of the replies.I do still have the seat and tank off and I pulled the rear mud guard off for a look.I,m not quite sure whats bent, but I think it may be a combination of frame and swingarm.I have everything lined up as good as possible and the chain seems to be running pretty smooth, just offset a bit on the rubber slider on top of the swingarm.I will just get on with it and ride it for now,but it does bug me!
  17. I had to move my rear wheel over to the right (when sitting on the bike) about 6mm to get my sprockets inline.Has anyone else run into this before?
  18. Hi Paul, Thanks for the reply.Yes,I agree on the front sprocket.I will put that in on the order along with a new counter shaft seal and felt seal.Your engine looks nice and detailed-good job. I,m just trying to get mine back together to ride this summer and then do a resto over the winter.
  19. A better pic of the main shaft, well, kind of better .
  20. Is there anything that seals the clutch push rod around the main shaft? Mine had a felt type, oil soaked washer. It has been quite a long time since I rebuilt my Pursang, but I thought I remembered a seal in the end of the main shaft that the push rod went through. On this one there is just an o-ring,but it doesn,t seal the push rod. Also, should there be this thick washer behind the counter shaft sprocket up against the spacer bushing?
  21. I believe it was because he already had the175 laying around the shop and it said that the 175 and 250 bottom ends were the same.He used a 1983 frame.I don,t know if they were any different than the 81-82.It also had a custom exhaust that Reg May had designed that he had reproduced byRod Spry.It has a round angled mid section going over the motor and the end silencer is down under the custom airbox on the right side.
  22. Hi trialsrfun,it says that they used an Alpina barrel (I would guess a 250) for more modern porting and bored it to take a 280cc Gas Gas piston. The piston was modified slightly to match the inlet port.It now has a swept volume of 272cc which upped the compression ratio.A stock 250 has a swept volume of 238cc. It states that when he pulled apart the ex-Saunders Comerfords 250 that the drive side balance weight was machined in half.On this bike the primary counter balance weight was shaved, but it doesn,t say how much. The clutch and ignition flywheels were lightened and it has a Electrix World ignition system. He also put a six speed gear box in.Pretty cool! Cheers,Scott

    Newbie

Nice work Paul ! It,s nice to see another Sherpa brought back to it,s former glory.I had a M92 a few years ago and really liked it.I should have never sold it.
  24. Greg, you were correct.I had a chance to get back out in the garage yesterday and work on the sherpa and it did not take much to pry/slide the left fork leg over on the bushing and get it centered.I don,t think it will bind the forks at all.I feel kind of stupid for not figuring that out! Thanks very much for the help. It is interesting that your 199b has the m92 style forks like mine.I kind of thought that someone had just put an old set on mine.I have seached the web for pics and haven,t seen any 199 models with the old style clamps. Bondy,I will measure my 199a rear wheel offset and post it later, but I.m sure inmotion could tell you what it is for sure. Thanks again to everyone! Cheers, Scott
